bros,

can anyone point me to someone from sd that can help with custom wiring?

thanks as always!
dani

Id try Artie Too or Lew Guitar.

what wiring help do you need? ... tell us which pups you are using ... which pickup switch you are using .. which pots you are using ... any extra switches you are using ... there are several of us on here who can help ... also, from the SD homepage (support --gt; schematics) you can find a great number of schematics that you can mix-n-match if you dont find your exact setup

good luck

thanks for the reply!

i pm'ed artie and he got me to post them here. afaik, no one replied yet.

ok. here's the lowdown.

cij thinline tele special with one volume and one tone.

pickups: hot for tele tapped in the bridge, vintage rhythm for tele in the middle, jazz neck.

here is what i have in mind.

1. standard strat wiring: bridge, bridge/middle, middle, middle/neck, neck and to be able to switch on either bridge or neck pup for bridge/neck ala tele in both normal and tapped/split mode.

3. to be able to tap the bridge pup and split the jazz.

4. to be able to select the coils of the jazz when split so that it will be hum-cancelling with the bridge and middle pup. i assume that if the slug coil is needed for the bridge pup in the bridge/neck position to be hum-cancelling, i should therefore be able to select the screw coil with the middle pup so that it is hum-cancelling.

all in-between positions are in parallel. i am prepared to use push/pull pots and a super switch if necessary. i am not sure if this is possible though and i hope i am clear enough in explaining.

thanks as always!
dani

to tap the bridge/split the jazz youll need a push/pull pot
to select the coil of the jazz youll need a phase switch

since you only need half a dpdt switch to split and half to tap you could do all this with your two pots. if you used one push/pull for tapping and spliting (not sure if youll want to do that or not) and one for the phase switch on the jazz you could make it work

strat wiring

from : localhost//website...ne1switch.html

tap

from : localhost//website...ped_strat.html

phase with split

from : localhost//website..._split_hb.html

combine those three and youre golden, assuming that you dont mind splitting and tapping at the same time. if you want independant control youll need to put a mini switch in

btw Dani, I am chewing on this. It'll just take me some time to work it all out. In the mean time, those are good links from Jeremy.

hmm ... are you prepared to add an additional mini-toggle switch if needed? ... i can see potentially needing one that is quot;on-off-onquot; in order to allow you to get the quot;stud coil-both coils-screw coilquot; selection from the Neck position Jazz as you described ...

you could use one push/pull pot to tap the bridge position and the other push/pull pot to have the 'add bridge pup any time' thing (in order to get neck bridge or quot;all threequot;) ...

i don't think you'll need a superswitch

t4d

ah yes, i forgot the bridge/neck switch

so it looks like youll need a mini switch after all.

so then youll be able to do this:

push/pull 1 - taps the bridge
push/pull 2 - turns on the neck pup
mini switch - as bill described

thanks bros! you all have been very helpful!

btw, is there anything i can do besides adding the mini switch? i would like to keep the guitar looking as stock as possible.

imo, i find the mini switch a tad to troublesome. i was thinking a superswitch may be able to automatically select either split coil in correspond with the bridge or middle pickup.

thanks as always!
dani

hmmm, don't think so ... at least it isnt coming to mind easily ... i can see how you'd do it with the jazz (split) and the middle in position 2 ... but i cant see how you would be able to have the superswitch split the jazz for combination with the bridge

That may be true, but unfortunately, he's stuck with us.

I think I've got something that might work, and keep a stock look. I've got to draw out a few things first. Stay tuna-ed.

Ok, here's rough draft #1:I'm pretty sure this does it, but it may have a couple quot;bugsquot;. Maybe not.

The half of the 5-way that's in blue is just normal Strat wiring.
The tone push/pull taps the bridge anytime the bridge is selected.

Again, using #1 to denote the quot;neckquot; position - when you select the #2 notch position, you'll have the middle and the Jazz stud coil.
You can pull the volume push/pull pot at any time to give you the Jazz adjustable coil. And that means literally, any time.

So, you can have the bridge, (in position #5, tapped or not), with the Jazz adjustable coil. You can have the bridge and middle, with the Jazz adjustable coil, (position #4, volume pulled).

In position #2, you can have the middle, with either coil of the Jazz.

I think that covers it. Here's the only quot;gotchaquot;: You can't have the middle with the Jazz full-on.
And, I'm fairly certain that I have the quot;humbuckingquot; situation sorted out, but thats one area that always throws me. (Which is why its a rough draft.)
If this looks good to everyone, I can redraw it in the quot;Duncan-stylequot; to make it easier to follow.

Hope this works. Ask any questions.

Artie

thanks for the schematic artie!

not sure if i can understand the diagram on the red and blue 5-way switch though. pardon me, i am having difficulties translating it from a less technical standpoint.

cheers!
dani

bumpidy for artie.

What I'm doing is making a little webpage that explains that step-by-step. It should make it easy to understand. I should have it up by tomorrow.

Stay tuna-ed.

Artie

thanks a ton artie! i am stayin tuna-ed!
