I was thinking of quot;pimping outquot; my old Yamaha with new pickups.. pickguard.. tuners.. and the like. I was thinking, since it was ungodly cheap and a fat strat knockoff, that I'd turn it into my quot;punkquot; guitar. But it has me wondering; Is this guitar worth the time and money? Witht the money it takes me to upgrade everything, would I be better off just getting a better guitar? The model is an EG112C.. very low end.. but it has a basswood body. What do you guys think?

i started out with a yamaha . the pacifica PAC112. then i put a JB into the brigde. I also considerd pimping it out like you. new saddles, locking tuners and stuff. after thinking a while i thought it wouldnt be worth it to spend more money upgrading a guitar than its original price. so i decided to get a new one with all the features that i wanted stock.

but in the end it really up to to you. you could add some crazy stuff to it that you wouldnt do to your other guitars.

So long as you like the guitar and and want the stuff then it's always worth it.

DOWNSIDES :
1) It's a basswood body ... you're never going to get that exact tone.
2) If you ever decide to get rid of it, you'll never get out of it what you put into it.

UPSIDES :

1) If you're going to pimp out a guitar, at least you're not mutilating a classic. If you hurt it, so what ?
2) The knowledge that you gain will be worth more than the guitar and the components.
3) You can do what you want a piece at a time, rahter than laying out a lump sum at one time.
