Is it a demand issue? Or is that what is in style tonally to the folks after them? Mid 70's Twins can be had for $450-$900 while the Deluxes I'm seeing are all going for $800-$1200 for the MV SF ones?????
Even the MV ones? Wow.
I think it's a demand thing fo' sure, as well as a trend type of thing. The latest conventional wisdom seems to be 'smaller is better,' especially among the older people who would be most likely to be interested in an old Fender amp. The Princeton Reverbs are really pricey too. But they are really cool.
weight to tone ratio...
DR's are considered to be *the* perfect amp by many...
yup, Twins are **** heavy!
I may pick up a late 70's MV twin when I get a boat. It'd make a cool, guitarry anchor.
Deluxe Reverb is THE club amp
Deluxe is THE studio amp (at least one of THE)
Deluxe Reverb is small and light weight
Twin Reverb is heavy as ****
Twin Reverb is loud as a mutha before ANY clip at all
There are far more 70's Twin Reverbs that there are Deluxe Reverbs

B-B-B-But you play a Twin Reverb!
I used to play a Twin. To loud, to heavy, to clean...unless truned up loud enough to make you deaf.
The first really loud band I ever saw live was the Paul Butterfield Blues Band and everyone had a Twin Reverb (including Butterfield...he ran his vocals and harp through one)...except Jerome Arnold, the bass player...he had a Dual Showman or maybe a Bassman.
It was at the Elk's Temple in Detroit...
I had to have one, bought a brand new blackface Twin Reverb shortly thereafter and played a Twin for the next 5 years or so...always cranked up loud just like the Butterfield Blues Band.
I think that amp is the reason I'm about half deaf at 56... ...and why I love Deluxe style amps so much more these days.
IMO, DR are far better amps. And certainly more versatile
DRs sound better in more situations ... it's more about tone than power, and DRs have always seemed to command good prices used.
a friend of mine called last night to ask what I thought about an SF DR he was looking at for $1500!!!!
crap, I didn't know they were that high!
Ilm going to build one soon from scrsatch,,,

I do play through a Twin Reverb!
I want(ed) the loudest/cleanest amp I could put my hands on, and the Twin is it...I don't use it so much these days but for years it was my main (and sometimes only) amp!
they are heavy as hell, they are loud as all get out and you won't really get a crunchy tone out of one w/o going half deaf but if you want the tone of a Twin, nothing else will do.

In all seriousness, I am worling off a small, but growing, waiting list. PM or email if/when any of you guys are serious. My shoulder has temporarily slowed me down, but I'll be soldering as soon as the Dr gives me the green light. When I finish Evan's EvanRude, I'll have something tweed to put into the normal channel.

That price doesn't sound that bad. I bought a first issue SF (1967) that has had the speaker replaced and I paid $1000. If it is all original and is clean 1500 is fair!

this begs the question, which of today's amps will be goldmines in 30 years?

Eloborate please.
I've been looking at getting Silver Faced Fenders for ages..... I have a BlackFace original 65 Deluxe and i like it.... But i have been looking at early 70's Silverfaces and man the smaller ones have gone sky high in price... The model i'm most interested in is a 1970-ish Silver Faced Princton Reverb and the last time i saw one in the Toronto area was a few months ago for $999....... That's nuts! I just saw a mid 70's Silverface Super with 4x10's for $699....
WHOFAN
There's always an active trading market for Twins out there because so few folks really can handle the exceptional volume they put out and the weight as well.
They're wonderful amps...but I wouldn't entertain even owning one unless I was in playing stadiums or only outdoor shows and I had someone carrying my gear for me.
in 30 years, someone will come up with a metal copper tube replacement that accurately drops into to a tube slot and mimics performance 100%!
i disagree with t4d's premise completely.
