Hey guys, Just wondering, how much would you all pay for a 1980's ( 83 to 87 ) mint condition Fender Strat? A guy here is offering one for about 1400 Dollars australian.
Those are nice guitars...just to put the value of Australian money into perspective, what does a USA strat go for?
you can get a mij strat (circa mid 80s) for about $800 singapore dollars here. that's about $650 australian.
holy crap that sucks. And unfair. We pay through the arse for strats. A standard strat is like 4 grand here.

say an american standard is about sgd $2400. convert that shipping should set you back approx $2000 oz. that's half the price!
of course, do get someone you can trust and knows abit about guitars.
just my 02.

Yeah thanks,i have a friend in spain, who know's a guy at fender. When she comes here for work, she is bringing me a few grand worth of gear ( she is paying for it, i just pay her back) so its nice!
Its alittle over a grand for a Made in Mexico Standard Strat

Strats are cheap and plentiful in Aus.
For example, this mint US Standard Ash got no bids for $1295 ($990 USD.) Standards and Highway models can be had on a regular basis for around $1000 Au ($750 USD)
A Mint Jap 50’s reissue just finished at $450 AU.
$1450 is way off the mark. Start some baywatching….

Venue Music has them for $1899 as a standard price. Do a little research …
i'm not really talking about online, i'm talking up here in north qld. The shops up here, god damn, i'm going to do alittle grilling.
buy in South Korea for half the price and have it shipped to you
But your kinmans cost so little dudes!!!
Hehe, why would that matter to Duncan loving Aussies…
Yeah iknow! Ive got thos old Yamaha 'fat strat' clone. I'm thinking of putting in a kinman wood stock, and maybe some custom custom's. I want a fender looking guitar, but without to much quack

Trust me- the Woodstocks are quite quacky…
CC should be interesting. What’s the clone?
How is the quality of current Japan Fender guitars? I'll be going back in a month or two and I'm thinking of picking up a '52 reissue tele there. On the Ishibashi site they are around 67,000 Yen, a far cry from what an Amrican '52 costs.
just got a cij thinline tele special and the quality is top-notch! better than some of the am stds i have tried.
be aware that the texas specials that comes standard are pretty dark. unlike the am 52' reissues. also, bridge and tuners are made by ping in china according to the experts over at the tele forum.
imo, you should buy it.
hope that helps.

It would get SD's, of course. Interesting about the tuners and bridge. Are they clones of standard hardware? Could I get a nice heavy tele bridge and have it allign? How about the tuners, are they similar to Gotoh's only cheaper?
i am taking the hardware issue with a grain of salt. afaiac, the kluson-type tuners hold tune just as well as the gotohs (maybe they are gotohs after all) but the bridge plate looks a tad cheap albeit being fender stamped. a vintage tele bridge has the same shoeprint. if i have the time, i will swap the bridge plate off my am mahogany thinline and see if they make a difference.
I could of bought a made in Japan strat from about 1985 or 86-ish for about $250 Canadian dollars... It was in rough shape but i could of fixed her up no problems! I have taken in beat guitars before and gave them a second chance.... besides it's a strat and they never die! Anyway it was in a metalic blue that i used to dream about as a teen in the 80's..... don't know why i never bought it.... i also past on a few early 80's Squires for $200 each as well... wish i had bought them all....

Hmm so woodstocks are out. its a EG or ES 112 or something like that, You can pick one up for about 200 dollars australian. So i think i'll go the CC's for the bucker, but single coils i'm not so sure. Something in her that will sound like a Jaguar and/or jazz master?
