Hey All
I'm still workin over my Ash Hardtail Double Fat Strat. I cant seem to find a sound I really can say I Love out of that guitar. I now have that set of 59s on the table still in the box but before I break in to em I'm thinkin maybe a set of Phat Cats might be better. How do you fellas think they'd sound in an ash bodied strat with a hardtail roller bridge. I Love the P-90 sound in my Godin LG but its all mahogany so I imagine it'll sound quite different. I'd appreciate any feedback.

Jim

Dunno about the wood choice, but I SO want one of those teles with the 2 p90s in there. If THAT sounds good with them, I don't see why a Strat wouldn't... I'm really interested in this, so keep us all posted! Have fun experimenting....

Is that tele fender stock?

Jim

Eh, I think it's a squire model actually, which may well mean that it's actually a POS, but I love the idea. I;m sure it would sound good with a setup and a pair of Duncans in there...

I got all yuppity about phat cats awhile back, Personaly I'd put a covered 59 in the bridge with a phat cat in the neck if I was going to go with a setup like that. Nice tones you could get there.

What made ya git quot;yuppityquot; mehis?
Been said over at the pickup forum that even in a maple rig they did'nt sound too bright.

Jim

Bump!
No other opinions out there eh!

Jim

I have a Phat Cat neck pup in an ash Tele with rosewood board. I used the stock 250K pots. It sounds very nice, with strong mids, tight and clear lows, and real nice highs. I haven't used the bridge model, but I doubt it will be too bright with 250K pots and a tone control for each pup.

Does anyoune know if most Phat Cat installs use 250K pots? Is that pretty standard for single coil installs?

Jim

Hey Jim; just a quick 2-cents from me. The Predator in my sig is a Strat-ish style guitar with a pair of 59's in it. I love it for when I'm in a quot;bluesquot; mood, although it rocks pretty good too. I know that changing pups can be a pain in the butt, but if they're just sitting there on the table . . . you should at least, give them a listen. Just so you'll know.

Artie

Thanks Artie, But a bit late. The Phat Cats are here. I'll let you know in a few days how they sound.
