hi everyone,

i'm considering building my own guitar (don't ask) using seymour duncan hot rails and sjag-1 pickups (one of each). i'd like to make the wiring like a jaguar, built with only the lead circuit: an on/off switch for each pick-up, and a low cut switch.
my question: how does the low-cut circuit work?
and how should i wire the pickups if i'm not making a second circuit like a jaguar normally has?

thanks!

alexandra

i'm not entirely sure of the pickup choice yet, but i'm serious about the lo-cut switch...

thanks

Lo-cut is just another way of saying high-pass, which is really what the Jag wiring does. Think of a cap as a device that passes highs. By placing the cap between hot and ground, (as in a tone control), you send the highs to ground, suppressing them. In the Jag, the cap is placed in series with the hot wire, allowing the highs to get out, while blocking the lows. The switch just shorts out the cap, allowing all frequencies to pass.

And I believe, you just want to do this:

Modified Jaguar Wiring

Theres a Hohner JT-60 on Ebay which is shaped like a Jaguar with three pickups and strat style bridge. Its pretty cheap. I always wanted to get one of those and put jaguar pickups in it. Either that or the Fender Cyclone II. Kind of a rational jaguar.

thanks!

so the things marked .03 in the jaguar picture are two capacitors rated .03 something?

i always thought the two dials on the jaguar were volume controls for the pickups, one each. one is actually for tone and one for volume? sorry...

it'd be 0.03uF, i think? i use 0.047uF for my own tone pots, the scale seems right..
