Since my english is not so good, and sometimes i think in portuguese and translate to english and the sentencies are ****ing Nuts for yah that speak english UNDERSTAND... i´ll try to Simplify the facts to make things easier for yah, And subsequently TO me.
Q
1 - I Never played an ALL tube amp enough time to KNOW IT, and i didn´t play it with Enough VOlume to notice the real character of the amp.
2 - I heard a Lot of amps. only God(???!!? Or Satan itself?) Knows how much amp soundclips i have stored here in my pc. i have a Folder named SAMPLES. with pickup, amps, speakers, pedals, and different guitars/woods.
all of that to help me Find my sound. I´m pretty sure i´m near .
2.1 - from The Amps I´ve Heard, i Liked the Following : 5150 head(but don´t know what speakers should i use in a 4X12 !?!?) Framus Cobra(don´t have the money ) VHT (Don´t know the model) , mesa Boogie Triple or dual rectifier, Peavey Triple XXX(Maybe, not pretty sure),Bogner Uberschall(no money At All) and don´t Know more Amps .
3 - Guitar body shapes and Woods - From the guitars i´ve played, and liked it, the ones with Poplar Body, and Mahogany Body are the ones i liked Much. my current ash body charvel is pretty dry sound, shriek, high, not the kind of bass i look for and not the midds. and all guitars, have the traditional Neck and fretboard WOOD configs : Rosewood and maple.
And I Like Floyd Rose Guitars.
i Don´t like exotic or extravagant body Shapes(with the exceptions of the BEAST by Bc rich, and Dean Cadillac.).
I preffer the charvel fusion Deluxe body, but with a larger cutaway for soloing in the upper frets. cause my hand is big and i feel smashed into the neck and the body cutaway when i´m soloing.
... CONTINUE...

...
4 - Finally The Pickups : I guess this is the hard part of the job.
i´ve played a couple of pickusp, but not too much . and i knwo i have a lot to learn about pickups.
the BRIDGE Pickups from SEYMOUR DUNCAN that i liked are the following : Seth Lover, Custom Custom, Duncan Custom.
The ones that i didn´t like to much because they are bright enough to avoid my taste .
Jb, Screaming Demon, Duncan Distortion.
and the ones that i´m affraid could be Muddy and bassy are the Invader, Distortion Parallel Axis, and the Original Parallel axis.
from the other brands in the market that i liked are the EMG 81, And the Bill lawrence l500 xl, not the one made by bill and becky. and The DImarzio ones, i didn´t play enough dimarzios to say something solid.
4.1 - Now the individual charachteristics that i liked/disliked in the various PIckups.
EMG 81 - Loved the Articulation and definition of it when palm mutting death and thrash metal riffs. Also, black metal riffs are articulated as well.
but the sound of its highs are kinda DRY and not quot;wetquot; enough, not warm enough for me. MAYBE, it is the guitar and the interactionm of the pickup. but i doubt. and the EMg 81 Mids ARE OK(NOT MORE, NOTHING LESS i Would increase it a little.) not too much good for solos. AS Screaming daisy said, it is better suitable in TUBE AMPS.
NOT ENOUGHT OUTPUT. eheheheheh a little more would be cool.and the Bass tightness is almost perfect. but again, not enough Solidness.
Bill Lawrence L 500 Xl not the bill and becky one - it has a good articulation on the bass while pam mutting death and thrash riffs, but not the same as the EMG 81. it has a Good enough Tight bass. it has almos the same Moderated Mids and the Emg 81.
and the Highs Are better, but not enough or not similar than the Custom Custom.
the Output is GOOD. But not enough too.
JB - it has a similar tight bass than the Emg 81. it looks like warmer and vintagey version of the emg 81. or virse versa. eheheheheh it sounds too much bright for me. and not enough bass/solidness. excellent highs. kinda Glassy highs and very good mids, but i preffer the CC mids. they are HELLISH than the Jb Mids. hahah it´s Heaven X Hell.
The Full Shred didn´t caught my attention because i didn´t hear it in a setup that i liked and with a distortion that i liked. Sorry guys, and thank´s for the efforts putting the clips Up.
Duncan Custom - i´ve heard good things with it, But again, Not the right setup and distortion that could make me like it enough. But it looks like i´ll like it .
...CONTINUE...

... Seth Lover - In the cd from SD pickusp that i have here, i liked it. but never played One. i liked the highs, mids and bass. it sounds a little like the CC. but not too much. slightly similar. and i don´t knwo how´s its bAss. Tight? i know that the midds are crunchy and the highs are smooth right?
and the output is not High.
Duncan Distortion - Very GOOD output, but it looks Unbalanced to me, too much bass, and not enough/quality Mids and highs. they are kinda Harsh and dry . i didn´t like it. Good and tight Bass, but not articulated Enough when palm mutted death and thrash riffs are played. and almost Enough Solidness in the bass .
Invader - Never played one. i ´ve heard two clips, from a lot of other that i have here, and i just liked those 2 clips, among various others.
i need to hear another clip of it. i´m affraid it can get Muddy and/or bassy . and that it don´t have enough highs for soloing.
Custom Custom - Excellent mids, excellent cutting throuhgh Highs.
a little More Output would be Perfect. somewhere between CC AND DD output. The bass on this one is not what i wanted. it is Spongey, and Flabby . not tight at all, but i still like it. it could be Perfect for soloing in the neck. i´ll test it . anyone have it or played it in the neck? how´s it for 2 hands, sweeped arpeggios and single note fast leads In the neck?
Original parallel Axis - I liked the tone of it, i´m willing how´s its highs for soling, and it´s overal deepness of the sound. And.. are it´s bass Tight Enough? and the OUtput?
DIMARZIOS : I just played the Paf pro, that is not my thing. and the Evolution.
i found that the evolution has the most Solid bass than all the pickups i´ve played... but it has a middy highy shrill sound to the overal pickup tone that annoiys Me. i had this pickup twice. its bass are solid and tight as hell. perhaps more than the emg 81, But not the same articulation as the EMG 81, plus, for Black/death metal speed picking riffs it doesn´t have quot;frictionquot; Enough ahahahah .
and the SUper Distortion, Tone Zone, Drop Sonic, The Breed, X2N.. i didn´t play. i must have to receive output and soundclips from these ones.

J.P
Thank´s In advance.

Some EXTRA notes : People said that it´s better for me to get a decent amp to re-test all the pickups, cause in the crap gear i have(amp and pedals) it will not sound good enough and ETC.
well, i agree , but not totally .

Gday u Brazillian VEMPIRE!!!!

ill prolly post a few times about this topic, but i think the key thing to remember is most players do not find THEIR sound in 1 big hit..

ur going to have to be patient. over the years, your ideas in tone will change and as a result, bits of your gear will change too. i dont think u should be too worried about finding YOUR tone - just enjoy the journey

on another note, i think you are closest to finding what guitar you want. You seem to like ur fusion guitars, so tahts awesome - if ur happy, stick with that - why change if your not happy?

after that, i think the most important thing is to find a head for you. For your tastes, i would definatley recommend a 5150 - very euro metal and i kno u dig alot of metal from that area. i would also think, financially, its better than you buying a dual recto. it will suit ur purpose - all out no holes barred death/black metal and u will do fine with it

the other option is rack....but this can get quite expensive
a great metal preamp ive been using is the JMP1, but the core of the tone comes from the power amp - which may cost alot....
advantages are lots of virtual channels can be used, and it incorporates effects really easily....but thinkning about it, i recommend u stick with a 5150 head

your concerns about pickups - i say take ur time with it, get your head and guitar setup right - see if anything is lacking, then turn to pickup changes to get closer to the tone u want..

just enjoy it all man.,..i just think, head and guitar....then everything will fall into place

Take it easy mate
Ishan

thank´s Man. it clarified a lot to me. i´ll try to get the Head. but it will not be too EASY. ahahah $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ UNless a job falls from the sky.

gonna answer in portuguese.SORRY FELLAS
meu camarada, experimenta toca num peavey classic 50.não tem nada igual, comprei o meu usado a 1800 reais, incluindo trocas e tem todo gain que voce vai precisar.

if anyone needs translation just ask google

Have you tried to switch the pickups around in your Charvel? 85 in the bridge and 81 in the neck? I think that it could be very good for you.

I can record some new soundclips for you if you like, with some new improved sounds, but I'm not sure how well an SG compares to your guitars. I can do a clip where I first play my poplar Jackson with a JB and then SG for you to hear, if it helps. If you're into it, tell me what you'd like. The earlier ones weren't my best ones.

Ahhhhhhhhhh Hails My Finish Friend
and hails brazilian Friend.
vou ter que testar esse tom anderson mesmo entao depois.
Hej JOHTOSOTKU
I swapped the EMGS but i preffered the 81 bridge.
its tight bass are unbeatable.

****ing hails JP!!!
I'm just gonna comment on the amp section in this post cause I'm short on time.
If you like the mesa recto (does anyone NEED that much gain???(well...then again YOU might LOL) and want a better clean sound(knowing you, you probably dont give a **** about cleans), check out the f series. They're awesome amps!!! Great gain channel, the gain channel countur(sp?) is a gain monster. the gain channel alone can get some marshally tones if you've got the eq right. The clean channel is the best clean channel i've heard on ANY boogie.

I'll try to comment on other sections of your post later.

if you don't have money, peaveys are the way to go. 5150s are pretty cheap compared to the other stuff you named, but if you go even older, like with an ultra, vtm or rockmaster preamp, you can get close for a lot less money.

the other amps you named are all at least twice as much as a 5150. (assuming you get one used, and you should).

if you want to do more research, check out the harmony central amp forum and for clips of some of the amps you listed playing brutal thrash and death metal.

Hails EOR.
ahahahaahahh i already Download ALL the samples on ROCKSOLIDAMPS WEBPAGE.
aahahah Thank´s
Thank´s Alex.

or try a used ada mp-1 preamp for pure metal tones.with a good solid state (yes no t tube) i managed to get even rectifier sounds out of it.it was a fender stage se.
you can find em in Rio de Janeiro for 850 reais and on ebay for 100 bucks.
if yur ever lucky to go to the USA try this from : localhost/

anyway i still vote for a peavey classic 50.the only mesa i like is the 1989 dual rectifier.randall makes mudule preamps that make a better rectifer than mesa, you can build up to four sounds in one for $650 new.

WFD: What amp/effects are you using now?

MAN, nothing... just metalzone guitar straight into the pc speakers
ahahah

Huuuuuuuuuuuuum, ok alex. thank´s ManWhat everyone else said, I don´t think you can blame the pickups then.
Get an amp, or at least a cheap used pod, would propably still sound way better than the metalzone-pc speaker setup.

A bad amp/effects can make any guitar sound terrible, no matter what pickups you use.

Go with the 5150!! They're pretty cheap used, and they rock. Otherwise, I second rocksoldier'sopinion in going for a Line 6 pod. While not the best value for money, you can get a surprising number of tones out of them.

EMG all the way man!
when it comes to METAL and i dont care what kind of METAL the 81 is reigning king!
