I just bought a JB amp; a Custom, between the two what do you think rocks the best ?

Depending on the guitar you put it in. Me, I generally like the custom the best. It growls more than the jb.

one coil from the JB and one from the custom?
there is a lot of guys around here doing these real cool HYBRIDS with great results
having said that IMHO the EMG 81 is THEE metal pup

Gotta agree with the EMG81 comment. Although the 85 is probably equally as good. Having said this, these are pretty much pure metal pickups and not versatile enough to do anything else well. If you need an all purpose, hum-bucker, the DiMarzio Tone Zone is really great. Really good tone and really hot at the same time. It splits really well. I had one in a strat and it got stolen

I don't use the EMGs anymore, just because I don't shred much anymore and I need more versatility. Great pups in thier element, though.

yeah i agree about the EMG 81 and 85 being very limited to metal only so if you need versitility and still have good power the JB or custom cant be beat

If you don't want to go with active pickups, the Lawrence L500XL is the best metal pickup IMO. that's the only place to get the real deal. Do NOT get the stewmac or Lawrence USA pickup.

For New Metal (Pantera, Slipknot, Shadowsfall) Dimebucker if your shopping Seymour. EMG81/85 is the best period if all brands are considered. For 80's style metal (JB or Distortion) works the best.

A bill lawrence L500L was what dime used to begin with. it's the pickup that seymour duncan copied to make the dimebucker. i'd go to the original source. www.billlawrence.com.

For me, the Duncan Distortion.

the 13.7k ceramic in my peavey and to metal pretty well.....
but when it comes to duncans:
jb
custom
distortion
custom custom
custom5
dimebucker
invader,
can all do metal very well IMO.

I prefer my Custom to the JB. I have on order a set of EMG 81/85, for my quot;metalquot; LP, and I think it is better for that type of sound. Just my preference.
