Im trying to make a choice between an RMC2 and a Picture Wah by Teese. Which would be a better choice, im basically looking for a nice vintage wide sweep and a good hendrix tone. The RMC2 seems to be safer because i could change the sweep and sharpness and that sorta thing, but the Picture Wah seems to be an incredible wah, which should i go for?
Also, if im going to be using a Silicon Fuzzface such as the Fulltone 69, would it be necessary to get a Retrofit put into the wah? Or is the retrofit only for germanium fuzzes that overpower the wah?
John(stratdeluxer) id like to hear what you have to say man???
Thanks-

Well....I'm disappointed that you wouldn't let me build a really nice Vox wah for you,but hey,all is good.....
I owned the Picture Wah and returned it and I've borrowed Curly's RMC1,plus I have an RMC1 that I bought from quot;Old Ghostquot;...
The RMC1 is a great wah designed pretty much as a 1 trick pony for single coil users....It has alot of gain and alot of lows and it's sweep is different...This pedal imo sucks for anything other than single coils and gets muddy otherwise..
The PW...Great wah if you want the vintage tones of the earliest Vox ClydeMcoy wah tones of 1967...Doesn't get muddy and it's alot more versatile and can be used with hummers or single coils...Compared to the RMC this wah is thinner in it's tone but has great vocal range and sweep....My own 847 wah sounded better to me and so I got my $245 back from Analog Mike and I'm very happy with it...My modded 847 has alot of extra pots on the board or on the outside for adjustment of quot;Qquot; Volume,Gain and mids...Not sure what the RMC2 is going to cost, but it isn't cheap....
If you plan on running your wah into any fuzz pedal, you will have to get the quot;Foxrock Bufferquot;.....Some people like to run the pedal into the wah,but I hate the sound of my wah when doing this...I took the fuzz pedal right out of my effects chain and sold it...I really don't need fuzz and I've never used it,plus it solves the fuzz/wah hassles...That Foxroc buffer will set you back $45 plus shipping...I still have the one I installed in one of my own wahs, but I took it back out after selling the 69 Fulltone pedal...Good luck in your wah quest...Contact me if I can be of any other help....Also check into the Wizard Wah....It's a cross between the PW and the RMC wah....
I'll now sit back and await the rebutles from the Teese Trolls...
So John, your modded Vox 847 is a better wah in your opinion? Im going to be using my American Strat w/ Surfers and i want a wah with a really nice vintage tone with a large sweep, basically in a a nutshell, a wah that can get me alot of hendrix tones with my strat. Do you think you would be willing to mod a Vox 847 to get a larger sweep and the sound im looking for? if I bought one, id probabally be willing to pay 150 on the mod itself.
Get back to me?
thanks-

Well.....I'm going to suggest you ask the following guys about their wahs or do a search....I've done for the following....Bluedave,Lew(2 847s)Curly,Brow,MRID,Midnite Man,Sweet lou,and there are some names I'm leaving out because I can't remember them all?

I can't say my modded wahs are better, but I add in alot of adjustability to my wah mods, plus I use the Fulltone pot and inductors,BC109 Transistors, upgraded components, buffered power supply, true bypass,Adjustable Q,Gain,Mids, and Volume(Unity Gain)....I also love the whole look of the Vox pedals with the chrome top...Teese's wahs are boring cosmetically...My wahs are voiced with the tones I grew up with from Page,Clapton,Hendrix,Beck, and Trower,so you know how I voice my wahs...I own 2 847s 1 848 and an old Crybaby that are all tweaked...
Im sure I could trust your ears to mod an 847 just right John. Ive seen good reviews from a search ive done, and basically forever! I think ill be PMing to get the main info on getting an 847 modded.
John's da mac with the mods! Especially if your a surfer strat guy like me, nailed my tone down with the TS9!
Man, I have a teese mccoy wizard wah and I love it (I got it because I love my Les Paul and the RMC 1 (my other choice) is best for single coils and the wizard is designed for either sc or hb)......but if I had it to do over again, I'd have probably saved some cash and had John do a vox for me, because I always loved Vox wah's ......but Teese is great stuff as well! It's hard to tell you what to get without you being able to hear each, but I have two pedals modded by John and they are both ABSOLUTELY AMAZING...if he ever starts his own company, I'm gonna petition to be endorse his products )

All I can suggest is to ask the folks who already have a modded wah that was done by me...There are several you can ask...
For the price, I think you'd be hard pressed to find a better sounding wah than Johns. From reading his posts, he definitely knows a thing or two about the right components to put in them.

Thanks buddy....I love the way the modded wahs sound so much, that I now own 2 Vox 847s,1 Vox 848 Clyde reissue, and an older Crybaby....I Love wahs and that makes it easy to mod them, simply because I enjoy them that much..
One of my all time favorite effects is the wah...One of the oldest also..
I have 1 of John's modded Vox 847 Wahs and also 1 of his modded Ibanez TS9 Tubescreamer's and both sound great and are an ESSENTIAL part of my rig
I'm not just saying that, they really are THAT good
Yep, im very much looking foward to witnessing what these raves are about for myself.

I promise you will love your wah...
The PW will get you more in the Hendrix/SRV realm. It is thick, gutsy, has a great sweep and is extremely vocal. I love that throaty vocal quality that it has, it really sings. There is no volume boost with the PW. It has the halo inductor and like all Teese wahs, it comes with top notch, quality parts and made to perfection. I had the RMC1, but I thought that it was way too bassy for me. I use my PW with both humbuckers and single coils and it works very well. It's built like a sherman tank! The following clips I did here were with my Les Paul Junior with fairly high gain so it cuts. I really love it and it works great in all applications. IMHO, it is the best wah made today!!

from : localhost/wah....I bought the PW also but returned it because my tweaked out 847 with all Fulltone parts and my own ideas, sounded better than the PW...I also like to add in things like adjustable quot;Qquot; Gain,Unity Gain, and Mid adjustments for the tweakers and for my own wahs...The other idea is to keep the price down a bit...The Teese stuff is great, but it ain't inexpensive either! I payed $245 for my PW and returned it 2 days later...Glad you dig your's though..The best sounding stock wah that nails the Hendrix era wah tones is the Fulltone wahs...I've tryed most of the high end wahs available to us today and the Fulltone has more sweep and is more vocal and it's the only wah I'd buy today..
John
Hey John..
That's cool man, to each his own. I had the Fulltone Clyde and I really didn't like the extended travel of it at all...I'm so used to a standard sweep I guess. The Clyde is really nice too but I think the PW nails the SRV/Hendrix/Cream type sounds better than the Fulltone. The Teese has that vintage Vox quot;vomitquot; thing happening that the Fulltone didn't have IMO.

That's cool brother....Teese is a nice guy also...I Loved Teese's PW,but I just didn't feel it was worth the $245 price I paid for it,plus it's cosmetically boring to me compared to the Vox! I Know, who cares, but what the heck?
I can build my own kick a$$ wah without having to spend that kind of jack and so I'm at an advantage I guess also?
That's the main reason I picked up my Teese...I got a killer deal on it! I got my wizard wah with pedalboard mounting plate for $140 (includes shipping)...so I didn't feel I could pass that up!

That's a good deal..That wah is $175 plus shipping and I Like the red color alot! Better than the boring gray colors of his other wahs..
