So strings, personally I used to be a big fan of the Fender Superbullets, and then I went EB.
But on gauges I've used:
9's
10's
11's
Not really a major change or difference, but the differences between these strings is very noticable. But just recently I bought some of these 8's EB.
Anybody used these? I'm very curious but I'm in no hurry to take off my 9's for the 8's I always wanted to try something lower on the gauge for my strat. Should be interesting.
Anybody got an opinion on string gauges? Any favorites, fatter or thinner?
A set of 11-49's will probably do you just right. Nice, thick solo tone, due to the thicker top strings, with a great tone for the lower strings. Great for anything as low as Drop Db, which is probably the lowest anybody should be going anyways..
I use the EB 11-48 set and it works great in Drop-D, so yeah...they work quite well with the floyd copy in my V and sound awesome...
but my 10-56 set on my 7 sound great too...in standard tuning, if you try downtuning they get flabby as crap and sound awful, so I'd definetly get the 11-58s for that thing, never anything thinner.
I think a 10-48 set would be perfect, or 9-46 depending on whether you like 9 or 10.
i use .10-.52. At first i thought i shuld have gone to a lighter gauge, but i decided to suck it up, and after playing alot fo acoustic my fingers got alot stronger and bending strings were easy. It just takes time getting used to.
i use 11-48 on my strats in standard tuning.
i can't stand strings below 10 - makes me feel it cuts my fingers.
the EB2220 provide the right bending-feeling for me.
I could not imagine playing a guitar with 8's. I use 11's on my electrics and 13's on all my acostics.
I use 13-58 in standard on all my electrics, and it felt like speghetti playing 11's. I couldnt imagine playing 8's on a strat.
I usually play 9's and 10's, I played 11's one time. Anything of a higher gauge will make you feel like a workout its suppose to. But I wanted to try 8's, never have so I'm curious about how they'll feel.
I got the pack laying over there by my bed, just haven't had time to throw em on yet. I'm sure they'll be twangy as hell.
just switched from 10-52 EBs to 11-52 SLP Dean Markleys(standard tuning)
13-60 Everly X-Rockers for everything from dropped C over C# to B(mostly C standard)
10-46
11-52 on LP, 355 (standard tuning).
11.5 - 52 on Strat (E-flat).
DR Pure Blues 10 set on everything 25.5” scale in standard
DR Tite-Fit 11 set on Les Paul.
To me, those sizes are the perfect compromise between full sound and playability. Thicker strings won’t do you a bit of good if you can’t play them.
After playing 14s on a national steel set up for slide and fingering, 12s on a les paul seem like butter. That's what I use.
I use 9's and 10's, occasionally im tempted to try out some 11's, but i've never felt i should go to 8's, seems way too thin.
I typically use 10-46 on Fender-scale stuff and 11-49 on shorter scales. I'm still searching for the perfect set for my new '51, though. I feel like I need something like 11-46, with a wound 3rd. The top strings just sound a bit thinner than I'd like even after I spent some time adjusting the pickup. I want to keep the sharpness of the bass strings, though, so I don't want to go really heavy all around. I've got a set of 11-49W's that I'm gonna try, but I am a bit worried about losing twang because of the extra mass on the low strings.
ATM 12-58(Standard, to C) The thicker the better for me.
I have been doin my own sets of strings lately. 11 13 18 24 34 46
I dont like big guage low strings but find 9's and 10's dont feel right to me...to slinky
EB 10-46 I think is on my guitar now, I wanted to brighten it up a smidge. Solos do come easier now too though
50-105.
I have been playing 9s, but I want my old 10s back now I think.
