I was playing guitar last night and sitting close to my amp. I was playing high up on the fretboard, and I started noticing this quiet second note under the notes I was playing. It was a very faint lower octive of whatever note I played. What is this? It only happened when I was using distortion. I was plugged straight into the amp. Anyone ever experience this?

I don't think so. The lower note is right under the note I'm playing, as soon as I hit the string. It really sounds like I'm using an octive pedal, with the lower added octave turned almost competely down. Could it be a vibration that's just a part of the physics of a guitar neck?
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this refered to as Ghosting or Ghost Notes. Its accredited to the speaker. I think this is why Weber offers quot;Dopequot; on thier speakers.

Is that something that happens to speakers over time or something?

Sounds like your pickups could be too close to the strings. This will cause a ghost note to sound, because the magnetic field of the pickups interferes with the vibration of the string.
