i was checkin out AMS and ran across these... 62 american made jazzmasters. I've always wanted a jazzmaster for some reason.

beautiful...

*cough* black please *cough*

Hmm. The jazzmaster looks so cluttered to me.
So many controls, screws and cumbersomeness. I'm not too fond of the shape either. Looks kinda prehistoric to me. I think I just don't understand the magic...

I think the shape's really cool... but I just don't dig the color of that on the pick... if it was black it'd be a really beautiful guitar....

That stoopid trem is a big pain!
It needs some setup magic to work really good, not just ok but to work really good.
Otherwise the old ones sounds great, I have a friend who has one old one from the 60's, those pickups sounds amazing.

I was originally looking at a Jazzmaster, but 3 things threw me off.

1) The controls... it looks like it'd be a pain to get to the tones you want to on the fly
2) The trem... loss of sustain and can't be used very effectively or it will go out of tune
3) The trem means changing a tuning inbetween songs would be impossible (very time consuming as those that have trems know)

You can see why I opted for a Les Paul Special

heh... I always seem the only person to go up to bat for jags/jms... (that probably just means they suck

1.)People are always intimidated by the switches... once you know what they do, they create about an infinite array of sounds (more on the jag than the jazz) or if you don't want to bother with them, just never touch any of the upper controls and its just like a normal guitar (more for the jm)

2.)yes

3.)that's what the tremlock button is for. If you need to downtune in a song (or if you break a string) press it down and you lock the trem.

I'd just get a Jazzmaster body from Warmoth and make it a hardtail .

JAZZMASTERS are great!!! Forget the looks and the funky knobs... it's all about the TONE!!! There is only 1 Jazzmaster pickup. The only thing that's close to it is the P90. I have a 96 model with a basswood body and I'm amazed at the sustain for such a light guitar! I did add a buzzstop ($35) to steepen the angle of the strings behind the bridge and that also improved the tone/sustain 10 fold!! I put SD Antiquity IIs in it and I couldn't be happier. Great 60s tone... it really sounds like a vintage guitar. My only axe before this was a Les Paul Custom so it definitely took a while for me to get used to it. But with these two gits in my arsenal I have a nice range in tones available.

Jazzmasters are a bit funky, but I dig them...not as much as Seymour (He collects them!), but they are fun guitars to play!
