And why?

I bought an Epiphone Dot which is stamped 2nd on the headstock. After playing it and looking at it for almost a week (I had money back guarantee on it), I can't see anything wrong with it.

Furthermore, I even think it's actually better looking and playing than the quot;non 2ndquot; Dot I had some years ago, which rosewood neck was uglier and had bad tuners and a toggle switch that died in two days.

I would have had an outstanding deal on this Dot (it's now a good deal, at best) if it wasn't for UPS's damn brookerage fees. Someone will have to explain this racket to me. I bought a Dean guitar a year ago and paid no fees through USPS. With UPS, it's always at least $55 of fees at the door. No wonder why they choose brown as their corporate color. Sh!t is bown too.

Wasn´t this Music Go Round or something like that with the used stamp and defiled seriall numbers?

How much was it? GJ too!

I had a Schecter that was a 2nd, it was because a little metal flake overspray got onto the finish on the back. No big deal. It was one of the nicest guitars I ever owned, I regret selling it.

My theory was that Gibson quit stamping 2nd's sometime back and just shipped them to MF instead.

ah, the gc wall rears its ugly head again. ive heard tell of a wall where the 2nd's go and then get sold with out being stamped a 2nd

It was US$ 299. I don't know how much of a deal it is in the US, but from a Canadian stand point, it's about $100 off. And then comes UPS with brookerage fees of $55. So they basically eated up 50% of my deal.

The guy told me he'd use USPS, and that's why I bought it, but he changed his mind. I can't hold that against him anyway. He's not responsible for UPS's burglary practices.

But I can't complain too much, because I'm really happy with it. I just love this guitar. In terms of playability, it's 10 times better than the Hamer.

The problem is, the weight of the instrument, which gives it a Handling fee, which may not total up to that much, but where they actually nail you, is in the INSURANCE. probably $40 of that fee is them charging you a percentage of how much the thing was insured for. I've gotten a 5150 head via UPS and let me tell you, insured for $600 can, i paid well over $100 in brokerage fees. Totally worth it, but i live in the middle of nowhere.

i've had tons of gibsons from the 70's mostly that were marked on the back of the headstock either quot;2ndquot; or quot;secondquot;. i've talked to gibson about these and they swear up and down that they have never marked anything that left the factory as a second. i know of a compony in kentucky that is a wholesaler(but they have only been in bussiness since the early 90's) that has contracts with lots of manufacturers to buy all thier returns. they fix them and mark the back of the headstock with either a quot;xquot; or quot;2quot; . then sell them dirrectly to retailers. i figure there was a comp. in the 70's doing the same thing with gibsons.
