I have a guitar with a '59 in the neck position. Iquot;m thinking about coil tapping it. Do any of y'all have this set up? How's it sound?
I just installed one in an Epi LP. I like the coil tap, it gets some tones you wouldn't expect out of a LP neck. The volume does drop when it's tapped, so expect to compensate on the clean channel. On distortion, it kind of cleans up along with the more single coil tone.
i also got this set up on my Epi Lp classic. The splitted neck '59 has twangy sound that I enjoy a lot. It's getting quite close to tele neck pup, in my paul at least.
If you want some example I use it on my Marshall valvestate to play Tom Morello riffs... pretty much the whole last albumof Audioslave to be honest.
And I find this sound also really inspiring when I play freely.
Thanks guys. That's what I wanted to hear. I guess I'll dig up my soldering iron when I get home today.
you'll need to be certain that your '59 is a 4-wire model ... they can be ordered that way (i did), but unless you specify, you'll likely not get a 4-wire version .. i like how it sounds when split, especially when combined with the duck in the middle of my HSH
good luck
