I want to get stereo monitors for between ?100 and ?200 GBP I was thinking something along the lines of the MAudio Studiophile DX4's does anybody have any experience with those? Thanks.Adam

I've not tried those but everyone seems to be pushing me towards the KRK stuff.

bumpity anybody else?

I've used KRK's for years, and love them. Never heard the M-Audios.

Which model(s) of KRK would anybody recommend in my price range quick check on xe says about $180-$360 USD although I'd prefer somewhere in the middle really.
Thanks Rob and FireBros

Just want to bump this up again now there are some more people on.

If you can, save up a bit more money and get something with a 5 inch driver instead. The difference in low end response is remarkable, and once you hear a 5quot; you won't want to bother with the 4's. I was looking at those M-Audio's as well, but the salesman pushed me towards the 5 inch version. I ended up getting a pair of Samson Resolv 50a's, for around $500 CAN and I am very happy with them.

KRK rokit 5's is all you need.

those sound really smooth, but have a pretty hyped low end, so you'll have to do some reference listening to get used to them, but that really goes for any monitors.

Whatever you get, play your favorite recorded music through them every time you are about to mix something, and get your ears used to how the different frequencies balance in those speakers. If the bass seems loud on your favorite CD then you will have to mix it loud on the song you're recording , or it will sound weak on other systems. The same thing applies to all the different frequency ranges.

I have the M-Audio BX8's and they are really nice. I wish they had a little less bass response but with the smaller speakers that won't be an issue. I tried some KRK's but I can't remember why I didn't get them?

I strongly recommend hearing the speakers before you buy them. Most places that sell monitors understand that and will let you bring a few CDs to play through them before you decide. There are a number of very affordable monitors out there these days that are very good, it comes down to hearing what you need to from them.

Yamaha also makes some really 1st rate monitors that I would suggest you look at as well.

I really never thought they had a hyped low end. Its nice and clear and punchy but its not overpowering the other frequencies. I can't say this about the alesis mkII's which do have a hyped up low end.

Thanks everybody.

Just reviving this thread to see if anybody knows of anywhere that sells KRK's and/or any other monitors in the Leicester area. (Cov and Nuneaton are easy enough to get too as well. Brum is pushing it a bit but I can get there if there's nowhere nearer.
