I tried a Carl Martin Plexitone after reading great stuff about it but it's got this weird rumble and overtones that are nothing like a plexi. It sounds horrible through the amps I wanted to use it on.
I've been hearing--again--good things about tonebone, any truth to that? I don't mind spending the $$$, but I want the results to go along with it.
should be in the amplifier room.
^^^ That's my Overdrive pedal. Maybe not for everyone
Rock On!
After posting this thread I had to try out the pedal again and discovered that number one--I needed to really tweek the thing and ignore the manual and two--use my Les Paul, not my strat. With the LP (Ants) it does sound uncannily like a Marshall and has excellent touch. I mean, I was laughing and giggling cuz it sounded so good.
The strat however is a different story. I can get pretty good Hendrix type stuff and that kind of sound but I'd need different pickups to get a smoother more quot;usablequot; sound I suppose. The strat sounds so good with my tube screamer and just straight through the amps that I'd never change pickups, so I re-learned myself a valuable lesson: some stuff just don't woik together! LOL
I don't like the way a strat sounds into most plexis anyway. The way the treble responds on most plexis is too round smooth for glassy strat pickups, and they just turn to mud most of the time. Obviously you can mod plexis to work better with vintage style single coils, but it certainly makes sense to me that your pedal is working better with humbuckers.

that sounds about right to me...
This thread still belongs in the amplifier room, and...
ROCK ON
I have the Marshall Shredmaster (Dist.).
It's not the heaviest, but it has the quot;bestquot; tone for me, and definitely HIGH quality (made in england). It's discontinued though.
The Marshall Drivemaster (OD), I heard is great as well. But I don't own one and couldn't really say a lot about it.
I have an old Guyatone FLIP Powerdrive OD (9V Blue and Black, not 12V Yellow). It has 1 12ax7 tube, and is just the best OD I've heard! I haven't had my hands on the MXR ZW OD though.
A Japan-made DS-1 has a pretty quot;uniquequot; tone to it. It's good for rock and stuff, but won't do it for metal, unless maybe you EQ it a lot. I'm still going to experiment on it with my DOD FX40B EQ.
the almighty mesa vtwins is one hell of a way to go.
also valveboy by JT pedal, find them both at the mesa boogie hollywood store.
I have a G2D classic pedal. That's designed to go after the mid gain plexi tone. It's great. www.g2d.co.nz
The strat however is a different story
But it is a matter of using your volume and tone controls
I should know of all people
I can post some clips later if you like?
And sorry for resurrecting an old thread.
I t just grabbed my attention.
V-Stack Classic. It's capable of direct recording, too.
