Yesterday I went out and bought a Duncan Distortion for one of my Mockingbirds. I had a Custom in there but was just curious what the Distortion would sound like. I'm very happy with. I really really liked the Custom but was wanting something a little bit more agressive. The Distortion is it. I was kind of concerned at first as I had lowered the string hiehgt and if you've never had an American BC Rich let me just tell you these things can get the strings damn near right on the fret board without any buzz. It played fantstically but there was really no room for the strings to resonate and left if sounding a bit EMG 81-ish. I was fine with that but it wasnt quite what I wanted. I raised the strings back up and gave it some room to breathe and it's just excellent. Fantastic pickup. I'm now a dedicated fan of at least 3 Duncans. So far in my guitars I've tried a Custom, a Distortion, a Jazz, a JB and a '59. I'm not much of a fan of the JB or the '59 but I have always loved the Jazz and the Custom blew me away when I got my first american Mockingbird. Now that I have a distortion in the new Mockingbird I'm totally stoked.
Glad you're enjoying it! Be sure to goof around with the volume knob... there are lots of neat tones in the Distortion.
wat wood type is ur mockingbird?
Ah, another convert to my Church of the Distortion. Welcome, my brother.
The DD rocks. That big ceramic magnet gives it a special personality. I really like the way it compresses when you solo.. it has a nice smooth output. It cleans up pretty well too.. and, of course, it really distorts nicely
The DD rocks! Especially with an A2 mag
Thats the pickup I plan on dropping in my bridge of my RR3.
Both my Mockingbirds and my Bich are Mahogany neck thru and sides with Maple tops. I'm one for consistency so I ordered a Distortion for my other Mock and my Bich.
I've also recently (re)discovered the DD; Such a killer pickup!

Dude, you crack me up
(I only laugh coz I do the same thing)
I've was never one, a few years ago anyway, to switch out P/Us. I bought the NJ neckthru series from BC RIch and knew I had to change them out. Given my Ibanez RG3120 had dimarzio's and I was none too impressed I bought a Duncans for the Mockingbird. I put a JB in the bridge and a Jazz in the neck. It sounded ok but really I wasn't too happy with the JB. I had EMGs in my Warlock NJ N/T and EMGs in my Jr. V. Also I had an ESP Custom and a ESP KH3 all with EMGs in them. I thought EMG was the way to go. A few months later I ended up buying an American Jackson SL1, SL2H, KV2 and KE2. All with Duncans all with poopy sound. I loved the sizzle I got from them but they really didn't have the definition I was looking for. At the point I kinda swore off Duncans. Everyone raved about the JB and I personally couldn't stand it. I still played the Jacksons until I sold them but I was constantly messing with my amps EQ trying to tighten the sound up. I could never really get what I was looking for. As an aside I never really liked the EMGs I had in the KH3. The ESP Custom I had however was awesome. The KH3 always sounded thin. I put a 81/60 set in my LP Custom and that finally had the sound I was looking for. Then I sold every guitar I had except the Pauls to buy 2 American BC RIches. The Bich I bought had a JB in the bridge and I wasn't real happy with it but it was an American Rich which I had been after for years so I didn't care. Then the Mockingbird I bought had a Custom in it . Loved the sound. So I bought a CUstom for my Bich. Then I noticed even tho the sound was much tighter it wasn't quite tight enough. The second Mockingbird I got a few weeks ago had DiMarzios in it and they sounded good but were missing something so out they came. I plopped a Jazz in the neck and a Custom in the bridge. Then I saw a bunch of people reccomending the Distortion and someone said it was what Metallica used on Kill 'Em All which is exactly what I was going for. It was exactly what I wanted even though when I first got it in it was a bit bright because I had the strings so low. As I said in my original post once I gave the strings a little room to breathe it beefed up and I was so happy with the sound that I felt all my guitars had to have a Distortion....
It only took me 17 years but I finally have the sound I've been looking for.

I remembered it being harsh on the high end, but thats also the reason I didn't like the Custom. I knew I tested the pickups within 2 days of eachother, and I now LOVE the Custom, so I figured...hell, it happened with the Custom, why not with the DD? And, it happened.
