Hi guys.. Artie tried to explain this to me, but I'm too stupid when it comes to wiring to make sure I understand, so going to try again in case he's not online.. and here at the forum.. as I'm getting ready to wire in the Dimarzio Tone Zone and wanted to wire in the neck pickup which will be a Duncan at the same time.. so I don't have to do it late.r.
Ok.. Here's the problem.. I bought a used Duncan Distortion Trembucker on line here at this forum from a great guy.. It's great.. I love that pickup, but with this paticular guitar it's very very bright and I can't get enough chunk when I play rythem, etc.. Well, I've had Dimarzio's Tone Zone before and I love it.. and Dimarzio seems to make great pups for Ibanez as they seem to be married at the hip or something..
So, I'm going to wire the Dimarzio Tone Zone in as a humbucker in this HSH guitar.. Now, I want to take the Duncan which is currently wired as a Humbucker in the bridge and move it to the neck, BUT I want to wire it to work as a single coil the whole time.. and I want to wire the coil side that is easist to wire, and so that I can turn it around and make it (The side that's doing the work or picking up the signal) work on the treble side of the guitar toward the bridge and not toward the neck to get even more treble.. I know, I shoudl just break down and buy a Humbucker from hell from Dimarzio or an Air norton or something, or even a pearly gates, and I might in the future, but for now this is going to do, because I don't want to have the Distortion setting aroudn.. as I'm going to in the near future either buy a killer Custom Jackson or a Les Paul Custom or something that I can take the Duncan out of and stick in the same.. So, in the mean time I want to use it ONLY as a single coil.. I don't want to have to pull up on the volume, etc..
Any takers? Can someone tell me which wires are which, where to soder them, the whole nine yards.. I'm a real dummy!
Thanks
Tim
Sometimes these things are hard to get straight.
It won't matter whether you install the Distortion quot;normalquot;, that is, adjustable pole near the neck, or vice-versa, the wiring will be the same.
Install the DD however you want.
Now, if you want the screw coil to be active, ground the green and bare wires, and use the red wire as your quot;hotquot; wire. Red goes to the 5-way switch. (I'm assuming it's a 1 vol/1 tone guitar.)
If you want the stud coil to be active, ground the white and bare, and use the black wire as the quot;hotquot; wire.
I'm at work right now, but I can make a drawing if you need it when I get home.
