If you were to never play with a band or a gig. Just you playing at home by yourself, what would your dream rig be? Choose 2 amps, 2 guitars (pups included), and 0-4 effects.

Guitars:
Gibson SG: Jazz/Custom 8
Taylor T5

Amps:
Bad Cat Hot Cat 30
Vox AC30

Effects:
Line6 DD4 Delay
Flanger
EQ
OD

Well, that could be a 'dream gear' or a 'practical home rig' question.

The most practical home rig I've had is my Vox AD60 modeler, fed into one or 2 Bogner cabs. The benefits are the low volume quality of sound, the recording out, headphone, onboard tuner, FX, and variable wattage selector.

I'll tell you one thing, if I had that amp from the time I started playing guitar, I would have eliminated so many headaches from lesser practice amps.

I'm a total tube amp snob, but I still think a modeler suits my needs more at home. I don't live in a big house, where amps can be cranked, and not piss people off.

Other ideas would be a POD Pro XT/power amp/high quality cabs in stereo.
And have it wired into a home studio, so you just pick up your guitar and make demos without waking up the neighborhood.

Actually I would suggest one guitar, one amp and acouple of pedals.
Start off with a Fender Strat, preferrable an MIA with single coil pickups, MIM and Squier pickups don't really sound that good and by the time you change the pickups, it probably will cause you the same amount.
Get the Fender G-Dec amp so that you can practice on your own or with a CD. It will also give you a lot of mod sounds.
Acquire the Duncan Pickup Booster. This will boost your Strat's single coil pickups to sound like humbuckers.
The last piece is the Boss SD-1. Get one and have Stratdeluxer97 do the mod for you.
I don't believe anyone would never play in front of an audience. With the above gears, you will be gig ready except you may need a more powerful amp.
I'd played quite a few guitars for quite some time and I've found the above combination fits a self practicing situation very well.
Good luck.

When I practice at home I usually plug my MIJ 69 RI Thinline Tele (PGn/Hot Tele lead) into my Boss GT-8 and into my SWR Strawberry Blonde with the tweeter off. It works great at low volumes.
