Hey all, I've got a 76 gibson les paul custom and a sweet dot epiphone with humbuckers. I'd like a little more clarity on the lower strings than the humbucker gives me. My American Strat single coil at the bridge is clear but has some bite (not like a Tele that is clear but has no bite). Any suggestions for a humbucker (to fit the slot) that at least comes close? The humbuckers I've got are just a bit too quot;growlyquot;....
Thanks for any seymour suggestions....

A PAF type on a Gibson should be plenty clear *for a bucker in that guitar*. None will really match the sparkle of a single, plus the Les Paul design is BUILT for quot;thickquot;, not quot;sparklyquot;.
Having said that, you might look to see if you have a 4 wire humbucker and try splitting and/or wiring it in parallel. If that's not possible, maybe Duncan's '59 will do better than Gibson's. Or DiMarzio's duckbucker. Or go the other way and get a STRONG 4 wire bucker like a JB or distortion, and wire THAT to split or parallel.
Welcome to the Forum! Yes, my first quot;Welcome to the Forum!quot;. Boo-yah.
I'd go for a JB. The JB humbucker sounds great in a Les Paul and has my favorite split and parallel tones of any humbucker I have owned. You should experiment with both the split and parallel connection and see which you prefer...both have a great single coil tone, IMO. Lew
Thanks all! Some good advice all 'round.
Here's my rigs, by the way:
1976 Les Paul Custom [wine red]
1983 Ibanez Roadstar II
1993 American Strat
2004 Lite Ash Tele
2005 Epiphone Dot
Crate CR 212 twin 12quot;
Boss Me-6
Sample tune: Thin Dime
For a jangly sound in a LP, I'd recommend p90's that will fit in your LP, or even a filtertron type humbucker pickup if hum is an issue. TV Jones makes a Filtertron pickup that will fit in a regular humbucker mound. Filtertrons are very low output and bright humbuckers.
For a very articulate and jangly PAF type pickup without the warm midrange type honk that the 59 seems to have, you should really try the Schaller Golden 50 humbucker. It's a brighter, more jangly PAF type pickup. Heritage guitars used to fit all their LP's with them. Very bright and articulate. Almost single coil in attack. I had one in my epiphone LP and loved it. As a matter of fact, I'm going to replace my JB with the Schaller Golden 50 again next week.

Hi there welcome to the forum. I cannot disagree with Lew....! You just described the tone of a JB in the brdidge and Jazz for the neck. Infact your discription is perfect for the JAzz (mind u it kicks good rock tones, my tutor has a jazz in his neck)
Here's a perfect example of the sound I use:
Song: IT
This is with just a touch of distortion.... Note the low notes are very clear... This is from a single coil at the bridge.
