yo,

Okay so I bought a 98' MIM standard tele yesterday and I'm really liking it but it seems very heavy for a telecaster.

I just weighed it and its 10 lbs- I know the guitar in poplar but it still seems heavy.

my mahagony tele that I built is only 8 lbs

I dont mind the weight and it plays good but i'm just wondering how much a standard Tele should weigh?

approx the same as the average wind velocity of a sparrow.

Not exactly velocity is a vector which means you have to take into account the direction. Speed being a scalar quantity has no relation to the direction of motion

i have had a tele that was almost as heavy as yours and also one that was only 6 pounds (a bit under actually). i would say 7 or 7.5 might be an average weight, but keep in mind that if it plays and sound nice, no matter what it weighs it is still a nice guitar.

yeah, it does play nice. It's deffinatly a keeper.

thanks for the info Mrfjones!

I think 7 to 8 pounds is typical, but there are certainly lighter and heavier examples out there. I think the heavier ones tend to be a bit brighter sometimes, but it's all in how it feels and sounds when it's in your hands.
