hey guys,
im looking for a cabinet, alternative to a 1960a/b, to match a dsl50 head. the stack seems to me to be cliche and stuff. and i wanna try something with better speakers like greenbacks or vintage 30's or any eminence speakers. can you guys help me out? I was thinking maybe a randall xl or a marshall 1960tv or something. these is leading me to another question...aside form speakers, are cabinets basically the same but just some brands are more expsensive than others?
and do u guys have any favorite cabs or any suggestions?

thanks.

Cabs are not all built the same. As far as the cabinet goes some cabs are built like tanks with solid wood while other cabs use cheaper materials like cheap plywood. The solid wood compared to plywood IMO can make an cab sound better.
As far as my choice. i always liked the Carvin Legacy cab. It comes with 4
Vinatage 30's.

be sure you really need to blow as much air as a 4x12quot; blows before you commit to hauling it around ... if a 2x12quot; will get you what you need, consider it ... easier to haul around and you can save $$ that will allow you to buy a better quality 2X12quot; ... i know alot of guys who HAD TO HAVE a 4x12quot; cab (or two!!), only to see it sit unused because it is too big/loud for their bedroom and too heavy/inconvenient to haul back and forth to band practice ...

and yes, construction / materials matter ... folks have had very good results at a value price with avatar speaker cabinets ... you can get em loaded with just about whatever kind of speaker you want ... also check out used gear for a good cost savings ...

good luck

You couldn't possibly go wrong with a Bogner cab if money isn't an issue. Splawn cabs are very similar to the Bogner and are also great. For the money, the Avatar stuff seems like a great deal and I only hear good things about them....

i really appreciate all the responses guys. thanks.

Splawn hands down! i just quot;wentquot; cab shopping a while ago and gave myself pretty much no budget for 1 4x12, i read up on a bunch of cabs, played a bunch etc etc and in the end splawn was what i chose and i couldn't be happier with the quality and sound. plus with a splawn cab you get tons of choices in speakers and even in tolex and grill colors that other companies just don't do. this way your sure you get what you want in a high quality cab!

Splawn builds a wicked 2x12 as well. That's what I was going to buy, then this deal on my Marshall 1960A presented itself. I'm sure I'll find this 4x12 too damn loud most of the time, and end up with a Splawn 2x12 at some point. Not as expensive as you might think either.

Splawn cabs are awesome, like a mix between a Bogners and good Marshall cabs.
