I've always found it interesting that among almost all of my friends and acquaintences, including those that own many, many instruments, only one will be a six-string acoustic. The listing of their collection will often go quot; And this is my Strat, that's my Tele, here we've got two SGs, one with P90s and the other with Humbuckers. My Les Paul is in the shop at the moment having new pickups installed, but I just got the Wolfgang back yesterday....oh and this is my acoustic.quot; Sure, there are a couple of exceptions, though I'm not counting things like 12-strings or an Acoustic-Electic bought solely because it allowed for playing acoustic onstage.

So many of us spend so much time and money chasing down these different tones in electrics, but we seem perfectly happy to have a single good tone in a single acoustic.

So how about y'all? How many instruments in your arsenal are devoted to capturing differing tones in the acoustic realm?

not a single one. i do need to get an acoustic but i know it won't get too much use so i keep putting it off and buying more electrics.

Maybe because alot of people play an electric guitar, and like electric guitar better but want an acoustic for sitting outside, or you know, playing an acoustic song.I mean, from acoustic to acoustic, it's still going to sound like an acoustic.

I guess the reason a person would only have 1 is because they all sound similar enough that you really only want to play your best one. Anytime I've had more than 1, the best is the only one that gets picked up. I went from a Taylor 410, to a Martin DR, to a D-28.

0...

I only have one guitar though. I want to pick up a seagull or garrison, but usually want more metal stuff instead!

Well, while an acoustic is alwasy going to sound like an acoustic, it's not like every acoustic sounds just like every other acoustic (or even close, really). I see your point about people who have only limited use for an acoustic, but for those people who LIKE acoustics for the sounds they make (and I count myself among that number) why don't we feel compelled to chase down the unique tones of a Koa Taylor, a Spruce Martin, a composite graphit Ovation, a Maple Gibson Jumbo...etc.

I have one acoustic guitar. It's a Taylor and it sounds great to me both live and on recordings. I know how different other acoustics sound, yet I don't go GASsing after them, trying to collect a wide range of acoustic tones, nor do I spend any effort or money trying to eke sounds out of my Taylor that could pass for those other guitars. Those ARE things I do with electrics, though. I just find the dichotomy curious.Originally Posted by MephisI mean, from acoustic to acoustic, it's still going to sound like an acoustic.
I play my dads 80's yamaha more than he does so I vote for 1/2

Boy, you make a poll and you try to cover the most likely answers...Originally Posted by Nite_Maresz_25I play my dads 80's yamaha more than he does so I vote for 1/2
i dont have a 6 string acoustic. i got a 12 instead, cause they so damn cooler. i love my 12 string. and i dont have more acoustics than that (other than my dads, which is his) cause....well....i play metal. heh. aint much acoustic stuff there in comparison. the 12 string is f*ckin great though

Four. I've accumulated them over the years... mostly free

It's not my fault that that is the truth

I currently have a 2/13 ratio going on.

From electric to electric, when you plug them in they sound like an electric...

I'd like a Jumbo and a Dreadnaught. Right now I have nothing. I also like non-traditional acoustics, like a Maple Jumbo and Mahogony. I guess a resophonic would be cool in a grungy slide blues way.

One so far, and I adore it: a Simon and Patrick Pro Flame Maple. I would love to get a resonator someday, as well as a 6 string acoustic with rosewood back and sides. I do appreciate the differences in tone you get from different acoustic guitars, and I really do love playing them ... I just love the electric more!

I think that an Acoustic guitar is a much more intimate and personal instument, therefore only the one that quot;feels and soundsquot; right is necessary. Also, in this day and age, anyone who is playing live or jamming with a group is playing electric 98% of the time anyhow.

I searched long and hard for the one acoustic that felt quot;rightquot;.

That's an interesting and plausible theory.

I do wonder sometimes though, if there are groups of people out there for whom the acoustic is the primary instrument of choice who have an arsenal of acoustics and quot;that's my electric over there.quot; Bluegrass musicians, perhaps? In this scenario, my own observances and the poll here wouldn't be indicative of the whole of guitardom because we, by being here, are obviouly ver interested in the electric realm...Originally Posted by Jeff_HI think that an Acoustic guitar is a much more intimate and personal instument, therefore only the one that quot;feels and soundsquot; right is necessary. 2 OM styles, a dreadnaught, 2 12 strings and a classical. So I have 6 acoustics and 5 electrics.

Uno.

I'd discount the 12s and the classical as being seperate categories, but I'm intrigued by the list nonetheless. Did you acquire the two OMs and the Dreadnaught in order to cover more acoustic tonal range? If so, kudos. You certainly buck the trend I've most often seen.Originally Posted by beandip2 OM styles, a dreadnaught, 2 12 strings and a classical. So I have 6 acoustics and 5 electrics.
2 acoustics out of 8 total.

One is an old Gretsch archtop and the other a Guild D50CE dreadnaught. I wouldn't mind having a 12 string too.
