Ceramic Bar in a 59? Has it been done?

What does it sound like?

Would that be a quick, cheap way to increase output and balls on a 59 pickup?

Just curious. That idea popped in my head while I'm at work, not doing any work.

I'm not sure but I think the magnet has nothing to do with output.
If you put in a ceramic bar it would sound different, but wouldn't have more output.

Actually it would raise the output a bit. I haven't tried it, but some people have said it lost the PAF quality and became just an indistinct sound. I might want to try a 59 with an A8 in the bridge.

Yeah, the magnet has just about everything to do with output.

Ceramic magnet equals more output for sure....And more in your face...

I suspect that would turn it into an icepick.

59s are pretty darn bright as it is.

a Ceramic would also push the bass and low mids up a bit but it would also be a bit tighter...might be a good idea for some guys!

I have a 59 in the neck of my strat with a ceramic mag in it. And its actully my Favorite neck pickup I've ever used. I have no idea how it would sound in a bridge pickup though, Probably WAY too bright.
But in the neck its perfect. Its a small ceramic mag, like the kind in a custom. And its got a much more defined sound than a stock 59. To me a 59 in the neck can Sumtimes sound really muddy, But I never have that problem with the ceramic 59n. Its kind of a cross between A 59 and a single coil neck pickup. Its got the fattness of the 59, and the defined clean tone of a single coil. You can hear every single note of a chord, and it never sounds muddy. The highs aren't Biteing or brittle like some would think. And the Bass isn't to Massive as to make it boomy. Its Just right. It is deffinately the best neck pup I've ever used.
Try it out, ya might like it. But make sure you use the Small ceramic mags like in a custom. I tried the same thing with a big ceramic (from a DD) and it was just a loud muddy mess. And I highly doubt you want that.

p.s. BTW it actully didn't increase the output at all. It actully seemed like it lowered the output, to me at least.

Oh, I forgot to mention. Its not really a quot;paf with more ballsquot; or anyhting though. Its still got that 59 flavor to it, But its just a different pickup. Sort of a cross between a 59, and a Strat neck pickup sorta sound. Almost like a mini bucker. But Not really a Ballsier Paf. More like a paf after a sex change.

gender bender pafs Would that make it a PUF ? Now that's funny. Thanks for a good review. My plans are to take a 59N screw coil and mate it with a jazzN screw and put the A8 in it and try it in the bridge. I bet it won't be ice picky but we all never know, that's why we do these things for the surprises...

Fusion1, a A8 in 59 would be like a Ibanez Super 70. Its a around 7.5k bucker with a A8. Its reported thats it is very very clear and stronger sounding PAF (more non-muddy lows and more highs). In the ballpark of a Jazz i guess.

If you磛e ever heard or used a Jackson J-50BC, that磗 essentially what it is

Eh not a big fan of either the J50BC or the Super 70... I didn't think the J50BC used anything but Alnico 5. Pretty sure the Alnico 8 would make even a JC50BC sound different than stock , so that's not a fair comparison.

The J-50 and J-50B were A5, the BC was Ceramic. Same nomenclature (no c= a5, C = Ceramic) holds true for all the Jackson USA humbuckers.

Any magnet change will make any pickup sound different, so the A8 is a moot point /obvious fact...

The fact is that the J-50B is wound to almost identical specs as the ?59b (biggest difference is the plastic spacer instead of wood) and the BC is the version w/ a ceramic mag... and the J-50B sounds very close to a ?59b

So, logically, that comparison is far from unfair, as it磗 a nearly identical sounding pickup that has exactly the parameter changed that was asked about, namely the magnet.

And Isn磘 that what this thread was about? 59s w/ ceramic mags?
