I'm about ready to order a Warmoth neck for my paisley strat, and want to know about the larger neck profiles. Just how fat are the boat and fatback profiles? -say, in comparison to a 62ri strat's C profile.
I can't say for sure because I've never played the fatback or the boat, but I have tried the c and the wolfgang. Have you considered the wolfgang? It's the best feeling profile I've ever tried. It's a little bigger than the c. It's the only neck I play anymore.
well, the FatBack and Boatneck are 1quot; at the 1st and 12th fret
I'm not sure about the '62 RI, but some early 60's strats were NOT chunky at all ... I think some are about .820quot; or so at the 1st fret, with a taper to the 12th
I would recommend avoiding those two profiles unless you like your necks super chunky. I have a Warmoth with the SRV profile, as well as a Peavey Wolfgang. I would recommend those two profiles if you want something that's thick but not baseball bat thick. The '59 roundback might be another choice if you want something along the lines of a 50's style Les Paul neck.

I'm a big fan of the wolfgang neck, though I'd prefer it a tad fatter, which would mean shaving down a larger size...
I've got a boat and it is big, very nice neck!!!!!!!

If you want something bigger than the Wolfgang neck, the '59 Roundback profile would probably be perfect for you.

Are we talking 50s gibson or early Jeff Beck sig strat fat, or a bit thinner?
I like fat necks too and I too was wondering which profile, to go in for.

The '59 Roundback profile is designed to emulate a 50's Les Paul neck. It's thicker than the Wolfgang profile, but not quite as thick as a Boatneck.

both of the guitars in my avatar have the boatneck. I love the profile, slight V-very chunky, very comfortable to play.
I am parting out the strat, cause I just dont play it much. If you are interested, email me-it has the vintage tint, birdseye, rosewood fingerboard, MOP dots, medium jumbo frets.
I agree the Wolfgang shape is very cool. What sold me on going with USA Customs for my strat neck, however, was that they offered one of my very favorite backshapes. They call it quot; The '54quot;, and it's a .850quot; Soft V going to a C with a .090quot; taper. They don't upcharge for any of their listed backshapes either. Here's a link to their back contours page.

Thanks, but I'm after one piece maple. Shame, 'cause it's almost exactly what I want...

1. I've got the boatneck, and I love it. Thick, well rounded, with no sharpness at the neck quot;shoulderquot;. Stable as hell too.
what I love abt thicker necks is they are so comort to paly quot; no sharpness quot; as CASBLAH put it in.

Yeah, I assume that's Ernie Ball. Basically the Wolfgang backshape, as the Wolfie I had shared the same measurements.
