I am not very satisfied with my marshall TSL601........it has a kind of cheap sound and i was thinking of an ENGL screamer 50 combo. Has anyone tried it? Does it offer enough gain?(i also own a mesa boogie dc5 and since i never use stompboxes for distortion i want the amp to offer enough gain.......just like my mesa dc5). How does it sound under gain?......is it more of a Marshall kind of distortion or a smoother boogie type of tone? I am not very fond of the 5881 tubes that come with the engl as any amp i have tried with these tubes didn't do it for me.......
Marinblues owns one. I am probably going to buy one soon. I need something portable versus my VHT half stack. You can get anything from a SRV tone to a death metal tone with a Screamer 50. You can hear sound samples at Rocksolidamps.com
Well, I've got and ENGL Thunder 50 and I can get any type of tone... And this it's supposed to be less versatile that the Screamer. I would say the Thunder amp it's on the warm, middy tone side, not bright. And, according the clips I've hear from the Screamer, this is the same type of amp.
I recomend you to look for Marinblues's threads in quot;tips and clipsquot;, this guy gets amazing tones out of his amp.
