It's mine! I just won a not-too-old Schecter PT goldtop on eBay.

I've been wanting to do this project for 20 years, ever since I saw Pete Townsend's goldtop on the broadcast of the Who's quot;Lastquot; concert from Toronto in December '82.
I bought a black, American-made, Anderson-era PT in 1984, just like the one Schecter put in all the quot;Who Plays This Guitarquot; ads back in those days. (Pic at the link in my sig.) That axe is #1 on my all-time quot;never shoulda sold itquot; list.

But I always thought the Toronto goldtop was the coolest guitar. I think Townsend also played it at Live Aid. Here's a link for anyone interested in these guitars.

I didn't even know the current Korean PT's came in goldtop until I happened upon this one on eBay. It's alder whereas Pete's was thought to be mahogany, but quot;close enoughquot;. I'm going to replace the Schecter rosewood-board, lawsuit-proof neck with a standard Fender-style maple neck; something really fat, just like the originals. Per my post of a couple days ago, I'll try the stock Duncan Designed HB102 set (~JB/Jazz), with coil taps, for a while and see how I like 'em.

This is going to be great!

they only made those for a year or so. I remember when they were discontinued GC was selling them for $299 each new. I should have picked one up. How much did you pay if you don't mind me asking?

It sat with no bids for the whole week. I bid late, but a sniper outbid me within the last few minutes. I waited until 10 seconds were left then, sniped the sniper with a bid of $318. Got it for $315, more than I wanted to pay, but it's gold and I've always wanted one. If it had gone any higher, I would've settled for a brand-new black one from MF for $399.

I was thinking about building one from scratch, but the parts would run into some major $$$, especially if I went Warmoth. And, to get a single-bound body with the angled control cavity it would have to be custom. This is a lot cheaper and a lot less work.

Now, I just have to tell my wife...

Inside joke, gang. XSSIVE has agreed to send me one of his bogus Schecter decals. Lucky for me, he made a few extras when he built the blue Strat that he debuted earlier this week.

You know, I was thinking about selling the Schecter neck when I swap it out. But looking at my post at the top, with the PT sitting next to my avatar, I see that the PT neck would go good on my future project, a teardrop-bodied, pseudo-copy of Drooper's guitar from the Banana Splits.

I just have this overwhelming need to recreate history's oddball electric guitars!

Ouch! I know that feeling. I went through it with my Gamp;L Legacy. I think she's still mad at me.

Anyway, looks like a sweet tele, and I hope the project comes out perfect for you.
