I've been gassing for a white Flying V for awhile now and Gibson/Epiphone's recent business practices have forced me to consider alternatives as all the local dealers are giving up on Gibson.

So I'm curious if anyone has any experience with the '79 reissue Dean V? I'm looking for a solid, flashy metal axe that I can have some fun with. I'm not opposed to modding/adding Duncans if I need to.

Kinda like this but in white w/ black trim. Thoughts?

I think that would be a good choice. Dean guitars are underrated I think, they play really well. And with white and black trim that would look awesome!

Unless you want to throw down for a hand-made super-axe, the Dean is a good value-guitar. the new ones I've seen are actually better than the original ones that were made in Dean's US shop back in the day! I personally can't get past the quot;wishbonequot; headstock, but the rest of the guitar is done very nicely.

Thanks for the replies. From everything I've heard it sounds like a good deal. I just need to find a white one someplace now. As for the headstock, yea, that was my first impression of it too. I actually like the shape but it didn't look very traditional. But then I realized that if this is supposed to be my flashy, attention-getting axe who wants it to look traditional?!?

I don't have a lot of experience with the reissues, but I do own a 1980 Z Standard (same workmanship as the '79). It's impeccably made, plays like a dream and sounds like God. I would expect the '79 reissue to rise to those same expectations. Deans are awesome guitars!
