Anyone know where I can get a hold of brass saddles for my strat? Thinking about doing the Eric Johnson thing...

Also, the plastic nut on my [MIM] strat has come loose, wondering if I should switch to another material.

Pros/Cons with: Graphite, Brass, Bone, Plastic, LSR Roller nut, Enut etc etc etc etc

Brass saddles: I've tried to find these in the past everywhere... you'll have to get them custom-made most likely. BTW, the EJ uses a brass nut only on the high E (or it may be on only the higher strings: B, E). These are the strings that usually need the most softening.

I wouldn't go with the brass nut or the LSR... bone or graphite on a strat... or try graph tech.

Yeah, buy a set of Graphtech Stringsaver saddles. Make sure you specify whether it's for a vintage Fender bridge, or modern Am Std Fender bridge.
On vintage, the bolt is in the center. On Am Std, the bolt is offset to one side.

I pulled the graph tech saddles outta my Strat. Unfortunetly their reputation of being tone robbers is true, at least that was the case for me.

My first reaction when first installed them was, quot;yikes, what happened to my tone??quot;

I kept them on for a month or so. Initially I raved about the the increase in sustain and better note defintion but that was exaggerated on my part.

My first reaction after putting the steel saddles back on was, quot;ahhhhh, my tone is back!quot;

I know Gearjonser and a few other guys here like em, but that's my experience.

The LSR is a PITA(ss), and not worth the maintenance, imo.
From what I understand talking to my luthier is that graphite and bone do not have a significant difference in tone. The graphite nut is much better for tremolo's though. It's what I'm goin with.

Nothing wrong with brass except they're very bright sounding.
The only notes that are affected by the nut are open notes.

I had to buy 6 and I got them from this person JCGuitars on eBay.

BTW they did tame the buzzy high E string as other here said it would.

ive been curious about the new graphtech saddles that only have a little piece of the old saddle material inbedded in a steel saddle. ive only talked to one guy who had them and he was raving about them
