nothing lol...
i nearly left with the Charvel EVH art series black and yellow #721 since i was given a great price on it. however i couldn't bring myself to dump that much cash on a damn one hum/one knob strat with a floyd. the neck on it was killer though, real fast and fit my hand like a glove! great guitar overall but not for that much!
also nearly bought an amazing looking blue quilt top BC Rich mockingbird with a white duncan JB/59 set that i kept drooling over but the price was about $300 more than the amount i brought with me so i ditched that idea since the seller wouldn't go low enough on the price for me to consider it. sweet guitar though.
so, after looking at 100's of guitars i decided to have my friend/luthier Cris Mirabella make me a custom guitar and we went over some ideas and specs at the show and it will be finalized later this week and the building will start....i'm psyched!!
while i wait for that i think i'm going to clone the EVH charvel out of warmoth parts for about 1/4 the cost lol....anyone have any color ideas for it (solid color)?
also got to see Scott (wattage) and Dave (bludave) which is always a great time BSing about guitars!! watching Scott drool over a sweet Gretsch and Zemaitis as i was at the same booth drooling over the EVH Charvel was funny.....Scott, buy the Zemaitis buy the Zemaitis!!
well overall the show was pretty good, some nice guitars and tons of acoustics and jazz box's that i had no personal intrest in but some amazing guitars overall.
so i left with nothing in my hands but i did leave with a new custom guitar that will be started soon and plans for a warmoth project so i guess it was worth the trip

Specs, specs, specs!
i don't think i can disclose those facts lol...but i tell you this, for a custom guitar it's going to be the most simple thing you've ever seen lol...with one odd twist...

Mike,
Sounds like a great time. Had it been another weekend, I would have been there. Luck of the draw I guess
Jeff
Jeff,
that stinks that you couldn't make it man. sorry about that!-Mike
I hope I can make it on Sunday? What's it cost to get in? That's about
the only thing I can afford there.
$10 to get in, a bit steep IMO.

I went too and left with.............the free advertisement booklet. I saw that blue Mockingbird at two booths as well, but I dont have about $2500 to burn. Also, I really hated the inlays on that thing.
The show was okay, only about 1/5 were electrics, so that sort of disappointed me. Also, most of the booths were just selling things at retail, no huge deals. The guitars that they would consider lowering the price on were $2000 dollar guitars.
Overall, good time looking at everything though.
Hah I escaped with nothing as well. Overall it was an underwhelming show. A lot of vendors were no shows on Saturday, didn't swing by today so i don't know if they showed. There were a few guitars I would have been happy to own but the prices were a bit a high to seriously consider. I have a few pics I'll post in a few.
Great to see Mike as always and my buddy Cal was out from Brooklyn and we bs'd a bit. Watched Rick Derringer jam out a bit, Iwould have bought the Mockingbird he was selling if it didn't have this God awful tremolo contraption on it, it looked like a freaking Middle Ages torture device but was otherwise very nice. I was really jonesing for a '64 DC Melody Maker that was dead mint but I couldn't bring myself to spend $800 on it and the guy wasn't looking to deal on Saturday, maybe if I had gone back today, oh well maybe next time.
Pics?
sorry John, i didn't take my camera and if i did i would have only taken like 6 pics lol. like i said too many acoustics and jazz box's for my style.
-Mike
Sometimes, it feels like you paid admission to a guitar store at those things. I always like seeing the new toys, but I always find myself jonesing on stuff that isn't even my style! Last time I went to a guitar show, I was contemplating a Minarik guitar shaped like a flame! Then I slapped myself and came to my senses! hahaha
tell me about it i had gas for an evh charvel...i'm not even a masive evh fan lol...sure the guy is great and the music rocks but i realized i'm glad i didn't buy it b/c i don't play anything like him so why play quot;hisquot; guitar and pay for his name just for a real nice neck.

Yeah.... it was a good time. Cris and I were busy as hell and hardly had time to go out and see what was there. I almost bought a DC LP classic with 2 P90's. The guy that was selling it is local, so I may wind up with it any way . The Mirabella booth was the booth to be at. We were right next to the Acoustic Image booth, which worked out really well. Anyone who wanted to play thru the Amps were using a Mirabella guitar. I want to thank Jeff Lange from Jazz select for being so accomodationg with all of his gear that he let all people play thru during the show. We had 13 custom instruments on display: 5 Archtops, 3 Mandolins, 1 Flat top, 2 Ukes, and the rest were solid body electrics, as well as some examples of Mirabellas restoration work. We had a varitey of really top notch players come buy and chat and play.... It was pretty intense. We had a lot of guys jamming all day. Larry Coryell stopped by with a minor problem with his guitar, and Cris was able to correct it. What a real nice guy. All in all it was a great show for Mirabella guitars. We made a major statement at this show.
OH yeah i did buy a 1967 Deluxe Reverb too!! What a great Amp. Exactly what I was looking for..... and I got it for a Killer price.
nice score Dave...congrats on the new amp, it's about time you got one since you've been looking for the right one for some time now!
