I have had an Alnico II Pro neck and a PG bridge in my LP for some time. I've decided that I want the warm, smooth and sweet tone of Alnico II Pro in the bridge too. (BTW I have nothing against the PG- my next guitar will have a PG set in it.)

I can go ahead put an Alnico II Pro in the bridge, but if I can find a little hotter version of it with a tad tighter bass response without sacrificing the main characteristics of APH-1, I would prefer that. What pickup do you guys think would qualify as a hotter APH-1? How does the custom shop Slash version compare to the regular APH-1?

Some guys here pair an SH-11 Custom Custom with the Alnico II Pro. That might be what you're looking for.

the only quot;hotquot; alnico II humbucker is the Custom Custom...and in face just like Simon said I use it with my Alnico II Pro...it is a killer set up!

The CC is not really like a hotter version of the APH though. Sort of but not really. Here is this hole in duncans product line again. I would really like for them to come out with a 10K A2 bucker.

Another vote for the Custom Custom. It is my favorite hot Duncan bridge humbucker.

It may not technically be an Alnico 2 Pro HB, but it's very compatable with it and the combo sounds killer! Both are alnico 2 pickups.

Listen...you can just order an APH through a good SD dealer, like Blackrose, and have them overwind the APH a little for you. I have an APH in the bridge of my Hardtail that reads almost 8.4k. Standard for an APH is 7.85 /-. It sounds fantastic.

The other thing you can do is order the Slash Custom shop AP2. It's built on Antiquity hardware and is a little hotter. It also has a few other slight differences that I can't remember at this point.

The CC is also a great choice. Even though it's rated at 14.4k or so, it doesn't act that hot. It's really smooth and sweet, and I think it cleans up really nicely because of the A2 mag.

Great advice you guys...thanks!!! Looks like I will have to decide between a CC and an overwound APH-1. I don't want it too hot though. I mean, PG is hot enough for me but a stock APH-1, lacking the mids of PG, probably will not saturate the way I want. I think I will start out with the CC and if it doesn't work out, exchange it for an overwound APH-1. Lew, can I do this through you?

Anyone ever try a 'hybrid CC/A2P' for a median output? Not too hot. not too cold?

Slash does not use a custom shop model but the production line Alnico II pro. If you don't believe me, take Evan's word for it

BTW faraday, I'd like to hear that pickup! I'm not a big fan of super hot pickups.
