I have a friend that has a music shop. He builds high end guitars and has started building amps. ( Makes a good plexi replica )
He has contacted overseas company and wants to have his own ( low-mid price ) line built. Kinda like Kurt at Rondo. We are trying to decide what bodies to offer first. He is thinking different than LP shape, but will consider.
Please share with me what type of guitars you would like to see on the market. He is kinda partial to Ibanez RG type shapes.
So please say, LP, Strat (which would have pickguard) , Ibanez RG , Ibanez S or other, PRS or whatever.
Also if you feel inclined, list any special features you would like to see. Within cost friendly reason. Thank you!!

a cross between a lp and a strat.....

Hard call. The market is kinda saturated with Les Paul copies IMHO.

I would like to see short-scale Strat and Tele copies w/ P-90s and humbuckers. Warmoth seems to be selling a lot of converson necks, seems like there is a market there. Even just a Tele copy loaded with P-90s would sell I think. It seems like everyone loves that configuration, but the only option we have now in production is a Squier.

I'd say a modern take on a classic style. But if it's going to like Agile, and not like...say, Schecter, then stick to something traditional. At least for the body shape.

Strat body with 2 p-90's loaded. With or without a pickguard, both would look cool.

-supertele {a tele made for hard rock and metal} (24 frets, you know the works)

flying V. rounded gibson-syle shape. ....a floyd on it would be badass.

Carved Top Sg Style
Fender Showmaster Ripoff
Gibson Explorer and Flying V Rip off's

Do the first one in a Gold Top and you have a customer.

SG with P90's
Gibson Firebird(I can't think of any company that makes these besides gibson)

Tokai and Ibanez both have. But they no longer do, and I'd like to have one too :-p

Also. Rick shapes.

I also like the idea of the short scale strats/teles. A cool singlecut idea is the Tom Anderson Atom

Make it as unique as possible, except in body shape, keep it single cutaway, i always choose singles over double. Also give it a vintage sound for a cheap price, you just dont see that much.

1... given the Tele's current popularity among Emo-type bands, and the fact that it's not been done on a large scale, I bet this would be a hit.

i would love a hybrid between a tele and lpj. essentially a tele body with the dbl cuts of a lpj, wraparound bridge, single p90 in the bridge, lpj-style pickguard, tele-bass control plate. 24.75quot; scale neck.

I could definately see that. I like the telecaster body shape; when I see the les paul shape, I'm just reminded of Gibson's shady business dealings. But they sound great, and telecasters are just too thin and twangy for me. If someone was out there making guitars with les paul specs and telecaster shaped bodies....

If he's going to do a traditional line he needs to make it unique.
Like Fernandes did with the Ravelle. It's totally LP based. But has it's own
style.
Basically a new twist on an old design.

If he's going to do Superstrats like Ibanez or Jackson the here are a few suggestions.
Neck through body(or setneck with sculpted heel)
OFR (Original Floyd Rose). With locking nut. No licensed trems.
Alder or Ash. No basswood.
H/H pickup config.
1 Volume.
1 tone (with coil tap).
3 way pickup selector.
Ebony fretboard. (Bound would be nice.)
24 Stainless steel Jumbo frets.

I think there aren't enough double cutaway les paul bodies made for faster more shredding type stuff...sortof like the blue one snake, lead guitarist of skid row, plays in the video clip for quot;i remember youquot;. Like a round bottomed body with a hum in the bridge and a single in the neck, with a floyd rose locking system and what is probably a great fast neck for playing on.

i think you'd have a market in targeting modders..

the squier 51 for example - cheaper materials, but thats great for the simple reason people are tearing them apart and speccing them up exactly the way they want them

tom

PRS copies... that look like PRS's... (unlike most)
