Hey guys, Ive recently bought this old 1980's ( 1983-87 ) strat, wich i just love and adore, especially the sound, but i want to give her an Upgrade. I'm thinking of going the SRV route and getting all gold hardware, and a Black Pickguard. It hasnt had its electronics replaced ever, or the pots, so it hink that would be a good idea ( it has it's woes every so often ). Can someone point me in the direction for Gold Fender Parts, and a Really really good electronic kit upgrade?
Thanks again!!
Oh, and for the scratch plate, im going to have it engraved with ' BUTCH ' instead of SRV. Butch is the nick name my grandfather gave me when i was 1. Aprantly i use to hit kids when they where picking on me and my friends haha.
Also, im going to replace the knob's with push/pulls. Would 500K pots be toomuch? Or should i just stick with 250's?
250k pots are best for singlecoil pickups, and i think singlecoils would really be best for the guitar, if you're going for the SRV style
whereabouts are you? there might be someone in your country with the details of a good shop, too
welcome to the board

I'm in australia, and its hard to get ANYTHING here. Its cheaper to import a guitar from the US or UK then it is to BUY one here, even after import tax and shipping fee's.
has a lot of parts. As does and .
hehe just laid down $60 or so at basspartsresource.com
$6 shipping anywhere in the world, and they sell single sealed gotoh bass tuners.. (love.)

Hey thanks guys. So, ill get a Left Handed Gold Tremelo Part, Gold tuning knobs, out put jack, screws, black pick guard, and maybe a new Electric Kit? I mean i want the 'look' of Stevie ray, but i wont be trying to ' copy ' his sound. I mean its Stevie!! NO ONE can emulate his sound perfectly. But i just love the look of his number. I'm thinking of maybe replacing the pickups. Maybe some Kinman Blues and a lil 59?
the japs are some of the best guitars from the 80's imo. especially the ri series
Yeah,i was pretty impressed with alot of old Jap guitars. I mean alot of new Fenders still arnt as good as early 80's Strats. In my opinion anyways.

1 I've been studying in Australia for the past 5 months and I have got to say that you guys pay through the nose for music gear. Its crazy. I was looking through a music gear catalog and budget strings are like $8 bucks. Not to mention a MIM tele is over a thousand!! crazy!.
yeah, i was trying to get a Ultracure guitar here, 1500 dollars Australian Minimum. I can get one sent here from the usa for a gand. Same with Gibson's, or fenders. Second hand is the only way to go really. Unless you have a relative going somewhere over there hehe ( my brother makes trips to the USA and or Japan every year)

amen bro, testify (claps hands and waves)
at this precise moment my RI strat has
texas hot(neck)/5.2(middle)/lil' 59 (bridge)
you really cannot go wrong with either the JB jr, the lil' screamin demon or the lil '59 though- they all sound awesome and are very versatile. i'll be making some clips in the next few days, you'll be able to hear my l'59 then..
