i just wanted to know what everyone thought, i am having my gamp;l legacy cutomized, i play rock, funk and jazz, what would be a good set of pickups? i was thinking the sh-1 59 might be a good set, i have heard it is a little bassy and that is what i want on the bridge position for a thick distortion sound, but is it over kill on the low end in the neck position, should i put a alnico 2 in the neck position instead, and do these sh-1's rock heavy if it is needed, and then cleanup when needed, i know the jb rocks but i feel it does not have enough low end fullness, that is why i am thinking of sh-1's, i need all around flexable pickup's that can do a little of everything, is this a good selection? has anyone used these on a Gamp;L before, does a neck position sh-1 sound less bassy on a legacy (strat) than on a les paul?
to help can you tell me what the wood of the guitar is?
its an alder wood body, with a rosewood fingerboard, thanks for your reply, i just got it painted and he is installing the pickups on monday so i have to tell him what i wan't by monday morning.
There are a lot of guys who like the A2 neck pup, A5 bridge pup combo. The 59 is a bit bassy for me, that's why I went with the Jazz. It is now my favorite neck bucker. The 59 sounded fine in my Strat, not too bassy, but not as articulate as jazz's sound to me. That said I haven't tried my jazz's in the neck slot of my strat.
You might want to look into a C5 for the bridge if you like the 59's EQ. That way you get the same EQ curve with more oomph.
The other tow pups that are considered for the birdge slots of strats are the JB, and CC. The CC has a large mid spike and does well warming up bright guitars. The JB has a large upper mids spike and lots of highs, it is used with a 250k pot in lots of strats to tame the high end.
