I'm looking for an all-tube head for basically under $900. Right now I've been looking at the Crate V30 and the B-52 ST60.
Any others you guys suggest? I've seen some THD's for the right price, but I'd like more suggestions. Preferrably new
Thanks in advance,
Andrew
5150, XXX, JSX, used single Recto, Legacy, etc.
$900 is a pretty high ceiling. You can get some really nice stuff for that.
Orange AD30HTC?
Damm nice head, class A, 30Watts, two channels...
Hm.. I've been really looking at the THD UniValve, but I'll check out that Orange. I don't really need that much gain, but I'll also check out the Legacy you mentioned, DSS.

What kind of tones are you looking for or features you want, so we can direct you to more specific type of amps?
for $99 more you could get a 1967 plexi replica from metroamp
(some assembly required, but that's the funnest part)
throw that quot;preferrably newquot; thought out the window bro...save yourself some money and be patient and you can score a sweet amp for that $ used!!!!!!!

1. Your money goes a lot farther buying a clean used amp and you don't take it in the shorts when it comes time to sell.
You can get a used Rivera or VHT for that kind of coin (assuming you're talking US$ and not C$).
2 on used.....lots of good amps out there for $900 or less.
Have you owned a tube amp before? If not, I highly recommend a UniValve. You can learn a lot swapping out tubes, but be warned: tube swapping amp; collecting can be addictive...and expensive!
Grab a used Uni with a tube stash....they can be had in the $600.00 range, leaving you just about enough to grab an Avatar or Mojo cab
Puckboy, I think you just about nailed it. This infact will be my first tube amp, and that UniValve has been seriously grabbing my attention. I'll probably check around eBay to pick one up, and again, you hit the nail right on the head, I plan on pickig up a 2x12 Avatar cab.
Hoss, I guess you totally changed my mind, used may possibly be the way to go for me
Anyways, thanks a bunch guys.
The Uni was my 1st tube amp amp; it's very cool playing mad scientist with different tube combinations.
Be patient amp; they pop up all the time, usually with some tubes.
In the meantime, take a look over here..... from : localhost/luck
Tell me what you are looking for. I can build a lot of different heads that come in around the $800-900 price point. shipping to Canada might be a little on the expensive side, but do-able.
PUCKBOY99: I just checked out Ebay, and they had 5 that were under $700 USD, and one that was just a smidgent over $400 USD, so once I finish paying off my Warmoth Tele, I'll probably be in the market for one of those.
Scott F: I've heard never-ending good things about your amps. I'll check around your website again, just to see everything again. I may end up buying a Celtic if the Uni doesn't do it for me. If I don't buy a Celtic, please don't be offended, it will probably be due to funds.
EDIT: The kind of sound I'm looking for.. Well, pretty much anywhere from a bluesy kind of break-up, to a heavier crunch. Think of the pre-chorus from Ozzy's quot;Desirequot;, and that's probably the most gain I'd ever need. If that wasn't achievable through the amp, I'd probably just run an OD into the front end. Oh, and not too trebley, but with a decent amount of bass and midrange. I guess that basically means a Marshall-esque crunch, but what do I know?
Dude, there will never be an issue with me whether anyone buys an amp from me or not. I do not do it to feed my family. I only make an offer. I'm currently building a forum bro a JTM45 clone. It's not on my site either.
Very few people have even heard one of my amps at this point. I'm not reinventing teh wheel, just refining the tone in a few instances to the best of my ability.
Speaking of which, weren't you getting someone to hook up some clips Scott?
Was T4D gonna do some Franklin clips?

T4D got the amp, but it had taken a shipping hit. A few new bolts and some new tubes and it was functioning fairly well. Bill's recorder had an issue of some sort. The sounds came out very low volume wise and were not very useable.
I think Stratman is going to help me with this.
The univalve is a great amp.
