So i'm out doing some shopping this morning and I happen to be by GuitarCenter when they opened up today, so I walk in. The first thing that catches my eye is a new les paul standard limited for $850. I pick it up and fiddle with it for a few minutes, being the impulse buyer that I am I tell the quot;dudequot; behind the counter i'll take it. He says quot;sorry dude but I can't sell it to youquot;.. I'm like quot;why not? it's on the floor with a price tag on it, I want to buy it.quot;.... he tells me quot;well dude you can't buy it until the 4th of july sale on next Monday, we open at 8am.quot; So I say ****it and leave pissed... excitement to anger in about 45 seconds. Here is the LP that im talking about

try to get them to hold it in the back for you........or else, you'll go buy something somewhere else

Used pieces at GC have a 10 day police hold, just like pawn stores or whatever. They just check to make sure its not stolen. You should be able to put that guitar on lay-away until it comes off of hold. Go back and ask them about layaway or tell me where it was and I'l go do it!

i'dve asked for a manager and made a stink

then again, i wouldnt have been in a GC

good luck
t4d

was it that blue color....that's too sweet man...sorry it didn't work out!!!

it's not a used guitar it is a new 1... and they won't sell it yet becuase it being on display for a week is supposed to draw people in for their big 4th of July sale. I told them they need to get a sign on the **** so people know it isnt for sale now

and yeah Hoss it is that color... actually its the santa fe sunrise

Man, you should have asked for the manager! If it's not for sale, then it shouldn't be on the floor. Even still, you should have been able to ask them to hold it for you. If not, you make a stink, give them a piece of your mind, and walk away.

850 USD?? thats really a bargain...

$850!? That's a damn $2400 guitar!

The policy on hold for used gear before re-sell is not GC policy but town or state policy.

If the town or state doesn't mandate a hold time GC will turn around and sell it immediately.

I know this because there are different hold times between GC Boston and GC Danvers. Danvers is a longer hold time than Boston.

if there is a guitarcenter in your area they should be having the same deals. As for holding guitars, in my area guitar center can turn around and sell them right away, as they did with my PRS i traded in a while back

they are just blowing smoke up peoples asses....its just a form of BS advertizing...no one sells a LP for 850. They leave it out there, tell people you cant have it till the sale...you go home and have wet dreams about a les paul for a week...then you go back and they say..aw, sorry we are all sold out......then they know a percentage of those quot;dreamersquot; will drop 850 on something else....that should be outlawed...I would have raised hell and made them sell that or call the cops to haul me out of the store!

Write to GC corporate ... mention that you've posted here ... and ask them how they'd lie this thread to end. Do they want the story of a misunderstanding that was ironed out, or a disgruntled former customer with a BBS nick ? If you do write, please give them your contact information (name, telephone, etc).

^Screw that, just go back to the store and do it. They'll never sell you that guitar for $850, but you should be able to get a smokin deal on it anyway.

Here in Michigan, that is completely illegal. If it has a sticker on it, than they have to sell it to you. It is false advertising and completely illegal. You might want to call your State Attorney General.

That was my thought.
The old bait and switch.
Tell you a new $2400 guitar will be on sale for $850.
Then sale comes and either guitar is already gone or hanging on the wall with
a $2100 price tag.
The excuse you will get is:
quot;Oh, someday must of mis tagged that last week. These would never go for that low.quot;

if they're having some kind of sale for 4th of july then i guess ill be blowing this fridays paycheck on something guitar-related..i need to get a new amp anyway

It would be cool to have stickers that seem to have deep scratches and exposed wood on them in cases like this.. Just apply the stickes, show it to the quot;dudequot; and say, quot;Woops. I Broke it, I suppose I'll have to buy it.quot; That would be evil. That would serve them right.

I'd go back there a.s.a.p. and make sure it's got your name on all over it. That's one heck of a steal you got there. If they mislabeled it (which it sounds like) they have to sell it to you for the price you saw it there for. I'd fight to make sure it's yours. It'd be a shame to not pick up that guitar!
