Hello there,
This is my first post in this section of the message board. I recently became the proud owner of a Duncan JB bridge PU. I installed it into a Carvin C66 guitar. The guitar is alder body, maple cap, ebony fretboard. A lot of people told me the JB would be a bad idea because of the brightness of the PU combined with an already bright guitar...but I really love the tones I'm getting. I have two fusion clips on my website. The 3rd clip on there is a Carvin H22n (holdsworth model) pickup. I've got a SH-1n on the way to replace the Carvin neck PU asap. I'll be adding more clips of the JB once I get some recorded this weekend. I hope you all enjoy...

Cool! Proto Cosmos has a great jazz vibe happening. You remind me a little of Russ Freeman here, with some Jeff Beck influence.. maybe Skunk Baxter too? Very nice It definitely sounds JB
The Fusion clip is pretty funky.. lots of life and great guitar chops and tone.. love that little riff at about 00:40
Night and Day sounds excellent! Wow, that's some great roots jazz
Dude you sound like a total pro
That tone is killer!
What amp is that through?
Hey guys,
Thanks for the compliments. It was done through a POD2.0 into my soundcard. I use Cool Edit Pro 2 for recording. I'm still in awe of how awesome the JB sounds. I'm buying a 59 for the neck of my C66 Carvin from another board member and I know that PU is going to kick ass. If I can find my mic adapter, I'll mic up my JC90 amp and record some clean tones with the JB and post that too.
Thanks for listening

Great tracks!
The tone reminds me of Gambale on his last few efforts.
Could you give the specs of the guitar you have it in and are you using 500k pots?
Thanks.
Very nice playing and killer tone!
Can you post your pod settings?
What type of bridge is on that guitar, hardtail?
Clips sound great! I'm willing to bet money that whoever told you that those pickups wouldn't work in your guitar was on the Carvin BBS. The amount of ignorance there really bothers me. I posted some pictures of a flawed CT3 that I was sent and they banned me over there. I was very underwhelmed by the C22N and C22B. I was going to change them for a JB and '59 asap. I sent it back for a refund though because they sent me two guitars in a row that had obvious flaws and I didn't have time to wait a third time. Kind of a shame though cause I liked it.
But back on topic! That's really nice playing too, I dig it. Let us know how you like the '59 in the neck once you get it in.
1 to what has been said. I can't believe thats a pod.
You underestimate the usefulness of the pod! They are awesome!
My 59 will be ordered first thing Monday. I have to agree about the Carvin BBS. I have seen a lot of ignorant people there as well. When I got my C66 I was a bit upset that the guitar didn't quot;cutquot;. Well...I tweaked the pole pieces on the Carvin PUs...adjusted the height, etc. And I got a decent tone. It worked for a few gigs I played with the guitar. Now, don't get me wrong...the guitar itself is amazing. Best guitar I;ve ever owned. But when I put in that JB...Holy crap!! There it was...the quot;tonequot; I wanted in a PU. The quot;cutquot; was there as was the punch. The guitar by itself unplugged is loud and very clear...so putting a Duncan PU in it only made it better.
The specs are as follows:
Carvin C66 quot;contourquot; model (essentially a quot;super stratquot;)
Hardtail bridge (I personally HATE trems)
Two humbuckers with a 5 way switch
Black stain on flame (which ironically looks more brown than black...but depending on the light...it can even look purple at times)
Bridge PU was a Carvin C22b..(barf!) Neck PU is an H22n (Holdsworth model)
The holdsworth neck PU is a double screw model...which I think is kinda cool..
Okay...here's what is THROWING me. I seriously don't get this. The H22n sounded like ASS with the C22b in this guitar...but when I installed the Ducan JB...WOW...the H22 all of the sudden sounds killer....It's like a different PU....I don't know how that's possible...but the tone has changed to my ears. It's still muddy sounding like a Carvin pickup...I will keep it and install it to another guitar...
As far as my POD settings...I have no clue. I downloaded a patch from the tone library one day and have been tweaking it every since. Depending on the tune, the backing, or just my mood, I'll change the patch every day. I don't use all 9 banks..and never have. I use usually 1-3 and even then for lead tone I usually just tweak one patch over and over....
As soon as I get the 59 installed, I'll post more clips for sure...and I'll make sure I do a few where I'm changing between pickups during a solo to show the different tones, etc. I can't say enough good things about Duncan pickups....I've owned mostly Dimarzio and one Screamin Demon. The Demon upon first hearing after it was installed almost made me cry it was so sweet. I installed it to a Washburn MG94 guitar. The Washburn PU had a lot more gain....but the Demon just...well......SCREAMED!!! Sadly, I had to sell the guitar and the Demon PU during a rough patch a few years back.
I recorded a clip with the C22b in my Carvin...then again on the same backing with my JB..I played it for my wife and she said it sounded like someone had taken the blanket off the guitar's tone. I mean...how do you better describe it? I thought the same thing myself,..My Carvin PUs...as well as most stock PUs to me are like wearing frequency filtering earplugs...then when you install a Duncan...it's like taking the ear plugs out. If that makes any damn sense.
More to come when I get the 59n! :-)

Now that's what I call enlightenment!
Man, you are a fusion MASTER~!!! Those were insanely good clips; your playing is consistently catchy too, I love it.
KILLER fusion playing! Those are some pretty insane riffs towards the end. Great tone as well.
