I`ve had the JB in my alder bodied Strat and liked it but I`m wondering if the Duncan Distortion would work out. I`m going for the usual Lynch,Warren D Jake E tone. I know Lynch used the DD and Warren and Jake used the JB , so what should a brother do.

you can't go wrong with either for those tones . myself i dig the JB but i might be better to get a DD and an A5 magnet and have both .

DD if those are your two choices. However, I recommend the CC for an alder strat. Hell, I recommend it for everything....lol. I'm like Wicked Lester is with the DD when it comes to the CC.....almost....lol. Seriously though, I think the DD would be better unless you use a .047uf tone cap with the JB.

DD by about 15,000 miles!!!! The sound of a JB just makes my stomach turn!!! Thats just me though!

I guess I am starting to get a reputation of another sort around here!!!! LOL!!!!!! SWEET!!!!!!

5150, the DD is a JB
let me explain
the JB uses a alnico 5 bar magnet and the DD is that SAME pup only the magnet in it is a larger ceramic(like the ones in a DMZ super distortion they are double thick)
duncan is not doing anything dishonest here with this they are TWO DIFFERENT BEASTS!
the DD in a strat makes for the most Mr scary tone around
makes you wanna play the hunter or tooth and nail all day!
it will still do the jake e lee and demartini tones but they are quite a bit more fierce!
get the DD you know you want one!it is calling ya!

I've never been able to get a good sound with the JB in an alder guitar, but plenty of people have. There's just a bit too much lower midrange mud with that combination for my taste.

thats is odd considering both jake e lee and demartini used a alder guitar?
jakes was a fender made from alder
and demartini had a charvel made from alder?
did yours have the maple board and NO TONE POT hooked up?

DiMartini never used one pickup for very long. One thing he openly admitted to was his constant experimenting with different pickups. God knows what he used from album to album or even song to song.

If a JB is in alder with a maple board, it needs a tone pot. A .047uf tone cap sounds perfect for it to my ears.

It's been so long since I've used a distortion I almost forget what it's like...lol.

Hmmmmmm once again!

those guy did not use any tone pots?
demartini had maple neck charvels with no tone pot at all in them
'and jake e lee had a rosewood board but no tone pot hooked up?
Mr scary NEVER used a tone pot!i dont think he even knows what one is!

Right, and when they used the JB's, the tone had an upper shrillness to it. Listen to Warren alone. There's so much upper mid spike there it's sick. Since I now know what Dave and Lew were talking about in terms of the JB's shrillness, it's the upper mids and I can hear it in Warren's tone on many early Ratt songs. Jake's isn't so bad because his guitars had rosewood boards so that probably helped tame it down. Lynch on the other hand, he used the DD for a majority of Dokken. The JB was used I think on the first album, after that it was all DD. The DD sounds smoother anyway.

Don't me wrong, I still like the JB, it just needs a tone pot and cap to really sound the way it should.

I think mr scary had the best tone of those guys
the JB is not my favorite duncan
to me it is very rich but it has quot;somethingquot; about it dont go for?
i will like it at first after not playing it in a while then after about 2-3 days it starts to annoy me???
the tone zone does this to me as well????

Me too. Back For The Attack was his best tone in Dokken IMO.

I haven't tried a tone zone. The only dimarzio I have owned was the X2N, and that was in my teenage years of playing when hotter was better. I do like the ones that came in the EBMM EVH sig. The one that came in the Fender Floyd Rose Specials were pretty decent. Don't know what it was but it sounded good.

PAF pro

REAL GOOD PUPS!

The dd would make your guitar go alive, i wish i went with the dd originally for my strat because the jb is too too bright

If i used the 250k then i could'nt get as great as tone from the 59 in neck, I know you can't get it all so i'm okay with it

Throw a 500k resistor from the switch where the JB is connected to ground. That'll tame it down and make the pot seem like a 250k.

I have a JB in my alder lynch and it's anything but muddy =)

I found the DD, as with all ceramic magnet pickups to sound overly nasally...that's just me though
