hey i have a fender fat stratocaster and i want to put the single coil pickup the Little '59™ where is the best place to put in the neck or middle position thanks mark
I would say the neck. I loved mine there and will probably be putting it back. For some reason, I just think the middle pup of a Strat should be a single-coil.
wat bout a hot rail in the middle position would it sound good? mark
do u guys think a HSS strat with a distortion humbucker in the bridge position and a hot rail single coil pickup and a Little '59™ single coil would be a sweet guitar? mark
To my ear, the middle pickup is a great spice to combine with the other two pickups but isn't meant to be heard by itself.
And to get a good quot;cluckquot; or quot;quackquot; tone in the #2 and #4 positions, Artie Too is right, it really should be a classic/vintage type single coil -- or at least a quality stack of some kind (Kinman) -- and should be pretty low output with a high resonant peak.
The single narrow line of traditional Strat pickup poles sits under the ideal harmonic node for cluck -- a rails or other narrow 'bucker might also work, but it might spread the magnetic field a little too wide and straddle that node instead of nailing it, thus making it a little murky or even muddy, especially if it's a higher output pickup.
You can also hear how important the position of the middle pu is when you play some 24-fret HSS guitars -- both the neck and middle pu's are pushed about 1/2quot; out of position by those extra two frets so they sit under a different harmonic node (portion of the string) and as a result sound absolutely god-awful -- at least to my ear.
Hotter pickups work very well in the neck and especially bridge positions, BUT...I say stay with a classic single coil in the middle. Leo Fender just flat-out got the middle pickup position and output thing right on the first try.
thanks i will get a hot rail single coil pickup in the neck position and a classic stack single coil pickup in the middle position and a distortion humbucker in the bridge thanks for the advice mark
I was going to tell you where you could put a Little 59, but I thought better of it. A Distortion/Classic Stack/Hot Rails sounds like a great combo for that guitar. Be ready to rip off some heads.
thanks travis i will do that first i have to work my but off to get that money to buy those pickups. that sounds like a sweet combo my strat will sound killer when i do that. thanks guys for all that advise you gave me. mark
