Anybody can recommend me a s pickup which has the middly rudeness of a PRS HFS?

I cant think of any Duncans that sound that bad. JB's have a pretty strong and, depending on amp EQ, aggressive midrange.

You forgot about the JB!!!!! LOL!!!!! I have yet to play a HFS but, I have played BC Rich bronze series pickups that sound better than a JB!!!!! LOL!!!!

what is wrong with a JB?? you're talking about a SH-4 JB, right? cause i'm trying to find a humbucker to pair a SH-2N Jazz pickup, and some people say the SH-4 JB is awesome, others say not? why do y'all think that?

Why do people say it sounds good???????? Hell, I dont know!!!!!! I think its all hype myself!

I just didnt get along with it what so ever!!!! I actually thought it was the worst sounding pickup I have ever played!!!!!! No Joke!!!!

A bucker to put with a Jazz, take you pick. About any of Duncans bridge buckers will be fine with one!!!

you think a SH-11 Custom Custom would work well?

yup, thats decent!

awesome, thanks, i'll check it out

I have heard people say in the past that Duncans pickup that comes closest to the HFS is the Custom??? I have no clue though!

The Duncan that comes closest is the JB. Both have lean lows and a somewhat nasally upper mid spike. I don't care for them in the CU series, but a buddy of mine had one in a CE and it was OK. Not great, just OK.

No way, the Custom is the closest thing to the HFS. I changed the HFS to a Custom in my CU24 and the tone while slightly more open in the mids was very simular.

When I mentioned to Evan that I had made this swap he even stated that I didn't go far. (paraphrase}

That's exactly what I thought when I read the title of this thread.

Lov the guy's guitars but Paul's pickups are just...harsh and brittle IME.

Custom *is* pretty close, but a bit warmer and fuller to my ears. I'd go with something a bit softer in a Reed...CC, Seth, Alnico Pro.

I thought the Dragon was closer to the Custom? Not sure.....

But there are many guys using the JB successfully with killer tone.

NOPE. the HFS is not as quot;boomyquot; on the low end like the Custom... it doesn't have the Custom's top-end sizzle as well. compared to the Custom, the HFS are warmer, and the harmonics are more present. both are middy and very aggressive, just different characteristics.

Read post #12. I now do think that the Custom comes the quot;closestquot; in Duncans line. This came from Evan Skopp bro!

I'd have said custom as well. That's what my ears hear at least, but the custom isn't as nasally.

Why not just get an HFS if that's the tone you're after? They pop up on evilBay pretty regularly.

BTW I have a black one if you are interested in an HFS.
