For me to actually like my Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus better than my Gibson Standard? :ducks:

Here's why

1) It's just more comfortable..weight and balance, it quot;sitsquot; better on my body when I'm playing, the bridge feels better under my picking hand, etc...more natural to my personal style?

2) It PLAYS better for me. The Gibson is EASIER to play..More quot;butteryquot;. But not better. It's almost TOO easy to play at least for me. I've tweaked and tweaked the Gibson but I cannot get it to feel the same as the EPI. The Epiphone is a bit more...quot;tightquot;. There is more string tension, which I prefer.

OK sure..the Gibson is much prettier...has better electronics. has better QC...has better mahogany, has a real maple top, blah blah blah...technically the EPI doesnt compare...but in the quot;real worldquot; of playing...I have to say I prefer the EPI..jes cos it's better for ME.

I think I'm gonna sell the Gibby and just slap the 59's in the Epi and have all new electronics put in (and possibly a new nut).

Am I nuts? (on second thot..don't answer that )

I think it's cool you dig the epi, but I wouldn't sell your Gibson. It'll only go up in value once they stop making guitars from wood in 2045.

If it's got Duncans in it, it's a good guitar...
but honestly, i wouldn't sell the gibby... I think good quality ones will increase in value dramatically...

If you are so happy with the Epi why do you want to make all of those changes? Particularly the nut which could have a huge effect on the feel you like so much?

They'll definitely retain their value better of course. I could be wrong though.

I don't think the market is all that saturated with them. Gibson has pissed off a lot of people of late and pushed them into the used market.

That's true, but there are far more Les Pauls out there now than there have ever been. One reason the '59 burst is so coveted is that it's fairly rare, something today's guitars don't suffer from.

My first instinct is to say quot;yes, it is a crimequot;, but then I remind myself that despite the fact I've had several Custom Shop strats, I sold them all because my 97 Am Std alder sunburst/rosewood strat blew them all away. It's worth 1/3 of what some of my other strats were, but sounds better, plays better, and has more mojo.

Well, I hope it isn't, cause it might happen to me !!!

My Epi Classic is in a luthier's workshop waiting for new electronics and a set of '59. I really wonder how it will compare to my Gibby Studio after that ???

Yes but thats true of strats and PRS and about everyone else. You can't compare a specific 46 year old example to guitars in general.

Well the nut is cut decently ..jes installed sloppy...

As for the other changes...the natural tone amp; sustain is great and the feel/plability of the guitar is there and that's the biggest reason I prefer it......it could use better pots and a better switch....the pups I actually like...but I'd prefer the 59's as they have a bit more full/open sound and are a bit clearer..I bought them for my Gibson, but....

I love my Epi Elitist Les Paul Standard Plus too. Absolutely unreal guitar never had ONE problem with it. I'm gonna put some SD's in there pretty quick, and i wouldn't hesitate to have a showdown with a stock gibby

I just finished moding my squier strat and its amazing. It's better then my gibson at some stlyes but the gibson is much better for jazz. So the price tag and name mean nothing it all comes down how it feels and sounds.

i could not agree more, my squier does things that my jem only wishes it could do as good .

I LOVE super buttery, super bendy axes. I can't stand a stiff axe. That said, my Schecter is very stiff. But I'd prefer it to a strat to get a strat sound (split DD)

I still reccomend agile! i prefer them over both of those

I went from a Gibson Les Paul Custom to a USA Peavey Tracer. Talk about a price gap! Whatever floats your boat, man. If that's a crime, then I'm proud to say I'm a criminal!
