I have a Schecter Blackjack 006 with JB/59 pups and although I really like the 59 it just doesn't have the magic of the JB (I know a lot of people hate it but I don't for some reason) so I have been pondering a neck replacement. I am thinking either PG, Jazz or phatcat. What do you think? I play mostly classic rock although I would like some versitility since I do a little bit of almost everything. What are your reccomendations?
If you don't wannt to spend a ton, try swapping the mag in your 59 for an alnico II unit. It totally blew me away when I did it to a 59 I use in one of my Yamahas.
Just a thought... why not try a JB in the neck? It will be a little unbalanced, but do you use the middle position a lot? I've seen shredders on here praise the JB in the neck. And if you like it so much...
It wont be unbalanced in the neck at all! Give it a shot, it's the only place I really like the JB in .
Those are both cool ideas. I should try the JB in the neck setup even though I don't play much shred having all that output and cutting power would be cool plus they sound sick tapped. Where would I get an A2 magnet and would this be noninvasive as in could I easilly switch it back if I didn't like the results?
I got an alnico II out of a 57 Classic I had lying around, but I'm sure someone on the forum knows where to get one from a vendor. It's not going to be non-invasive, but it won't be too difficult to reverse if you don't like the results.
jazz, no question
given that you say classic rock, and want to pair it with the JB, it'd represent the best overall match of the ones you mentioned and most versatile
cheers

I'd go for the Jazz neck. The Jazz neck and JB bridge are Seymour's favorite pickup combo. You'll get a little livlier tone with more upper harmonics from the Jazz neck but it's still a very ballsy pickup for rockin' out. It is NOT a Jazz only pickup by any means. Lew
I agree with t4d and Lew -- the Jazz is the way to go. It's a great neck pickup!
