Hi guys!
I have the Burstbucker Pros back in my LP Standard and am about to install 300k CTS audio taper pots since they work best with the BB Pros pickups.
I am going to find a used Pearly Gates to test before ordering any and was wondering if 300k pots will work consideirng this is a somewhat bright LP.
Thanks!
I would swap to 500k pots, but I might be the only one! Lots of guys here think that the PG bridge is too bright, but I love it!
Good luck
Ditto the 500k pots for the neck and the bridge volume, though I run a 250k tone pot in the bridge, along with a slightly bigger cap (.020mfd versus .047mfd in the bridge circuit).
I run all my guitars with 250's, even the humbuckers. Its just a matter of preference. I did a test once, where I ran a volume pot wired full-on, but I could vary the quot;loadquot; from 100k to 600k. The difference from top to bottom was very subtle. Its possible that you won't even be able to hear the difference.
Here's the clip: (Using a JB in the bridge of my Genny.)

Thank you! I think a lot of it has to do with the particular guitar! I know my LP Standard works well with 500k pots in the neck and 300k pots in the bridge for both volume and tone. I think the C-5, Pearly Gates(haven't tried yet) and Rio BBQ all sounded better with 300ks!

I use an a-5 pearly gates in a strat with a maple neck and I love the harmonics that seem to fly right of the neck with ease as I play. if your useing at least 2/12 or 4/12 speaker combo and love rock and blues, the pearly gates is a great pickup to get you that edgy brown sound-vanhalen 2, Its not strong enough however in a guitar with a floyd rose trem as they require a mid output humbucker and I wouldnt try it if all you want to do is drop D type stuff as I feel Duncan makes better pickups for stuff like that-but for edgy rock and blues on a hard tail or vintage trem guitar thru 2/12 or 4/12 combo its a hard pickup to beat.
personally i like the pearlys with 500k pots, i like to have the high end if i need it.
