Is there any variation of body size/width on different SG models? I was at a show last night (Electric Frankenstein) and the singer was playing what I think was an SG Special (1 pickup, small '61 style pickgaurd) and it looked TINY. Very thin and flat. The guy was pretty beefy and he had the guitar slung down to the floor. That might have had an effect on its size too.

Well, the Gibson SG's as far as I know have always been pretty close to their current specs in respect to their width amp; size as are the Epiphones. But Yamaha made their SG amp; SBG 2000 series with a width rivaling that of a Les Paul. And ESP Vipers are a bit offset with the design, it appears that the waist angle is a bit shifted. There is also a company called Hunter Guitars who build a Michael Bruce (Alice Cooper fame) model which has a slightly wider waist

From your description, it sounds like a 1961 Gibson SG/Les Paul Jr. As far as i know this particular model had the same exact body size, thickness and contours as the standard SG bodies. Also, as far as i know, the original SG body is the exact same SG bodies we have today. Yes, the SG's are FLAT and THIN. The SG is also Gibson's attempt to rival a very popular double cutaway solid body of that era called the Stratocaster.
