Lately my guitar hasnt been sustaing well(and it's a neck-thru!!!) so I need some super sustaining strings.

higher gauge will sustain better, but you might not need to change strings. check that your action is high enough, as the higher the action the more sustain you will have.

by the way I got your PM, I'll reply as soon as I find the article I wrote on my PC so I can forward you it.

I've honestly never noticed a sustain difference between brands, but then, I suppose I've never really listened for one either. All the brands I've used have seemed capable of holding a note as long as I needed it held, ewithin the limitations of the instrument and/or setup.

I've noticed a difference in sustain after switching to Dean Markley Blue Steels. They have a pretty bright tone to them but they sound fresh longer and the sustain seems to be slightly increased.

WHile some may notice a differnece, it´s often more due to a minimally changed setup.... the strings are the component of the guitar (after the strap pin, Jack and Pots) that influence sustain the least..

A higher angle at the bridge where the speaking length of the string starts... a blocked trem.... heavier tuners.... more but shorter trem springs..... things like this will increase sustain much more noticably

Post what kind of a guitar it is and how it´s set up, and we should be able to help better

Sometimes, having too much concave bow on the neck (trussrod) will make a guitar sustain less. It might be time for a thorough setup.

Set the action
swipe a little piece of sandpaper through all the slots, just to clean them.
Adjust the trussrod so the neck is a bit straighter.
Intonate it perfectly.

That should solve much of the problem.

I'm with Zerb on this one...I don't think the brand of strings makes much diff.

Higher action and a great fret job are the best aids for getting as much sustain as possible. Increasing the angle of the strings behind the bridge and behind the nut also help. Making sure everything is tight and solid help too...

Also: the bridge pickup can be fairly close to the strings but the magnets in the neck and middle pickups can choke the sustain out of a guitar if they're to close...especially when fretting above the 12th fret.

In my Strats I set the middle pickup a little further from the strings than the neck pickup because the magnetic effect is cumulative and I rarely use the middle pickup by itself. Yngwie does something similar...
