this is a SEYMOUR in his guitar not a gibby P.A.F like so many swearthat has to be a duncan because IF i am not mistaken all older gibson pups have ROUND holes at the edge of the bobbins like this next pic.
here is a 1961 real deal P.A.F with the ROUND holes
BTW that real deal P.A.F is all yours for only
$1,299

Correctamundo... it is a Custom Custom...

i love those, i put one back in my one lester and it rocks
I forgot just how great they are
much nicer than the customs(all three)
which guitar is that though?
ON VH1 he had a fender bridge...not a floyd..even his first floyds were the kind without fine tuners if I'm not mistaken?
and that pup is not angled like on his original guitar...I don't doubt he used Duncans here and there, but for THE brown sound (i.e. VH1)...that pic doesn't tell us anything....?

eddie messed up ONE coil of the P.A.F while taking off it's cover
he told seymour to make the one coil hotter than it was and ed used this one for years
phase two began around 1983 when he told seymour he wanted to keep that pups tone essentially but have more output and warmth
the CC was born but it was not called that yet
eddie stopped seymour from selling it to the public with the threat of a law suit
the custom shop quot;78 bucker is the same wind that seymour did for ed on his old original '61 P.A.F
I was just about to say that it's a CC in the 5150 Kramer. Too slow today...lol. What's sad is I knew it from the first pic that WL posted. The pickup route and control knob are a dead giveaway.
i wonder if his pickups that he desighned were modeled after the custom custom.what kind of tone and dynamics does the c.c.have i have a sreamen dmn for my guitar, now i'm wondering if the c.c. is where i should have gone.i know he used a 59er in the bridge of one of his guitars for awhile, but i think the59 sounds best in the neck.not enough attack in the bridge position(at least to my ears).i have an issue of theINSIDEv.h. fanzine that shows what guitars he used for all his different songs.i'm pretty sure it says what pickups he used in them.i'll try to find it,and if anyones interested,i'll post it.

I was over at and came across it and a lot of real cool stuff for the kramer lover
I am after a old pacer and it seems that there are many MUTTS out there and i was told this site helped you identify the USA kramers?

the CC is much warmer then the demon and also a good deal hotter
i prefer the CC even though i love GL, i dont go for his newer tones
the CC is real good for a EVH tone but many say it is too compressed to really dupe
so for the EVH tones i would vote that you did the right thing getting a demon since it is closer to his pup from the 78-81 era

Yup, that's the place to get the info on USA Kramers. That's how I've been able to find out everything about mine....and even added it to the registry.

It can be a long hunt. You just have to know what to look for, and search search search. Check the Kramer Forum too. Some guys sell there and may be able to help you out. Mike especially. He knows way more than I do.

WICKED... YOU ARE CORRECT HERE... SEYMOUR ONLY REWOUND 1 COIL OF EDDIE'S PAF... AND IT WAS MADE HOTTER... THE COIL MIS-MATCH CREATED THAT SPECIAL TONE WITH SOME SINGLE COIL QUALITIES... ALMOST LIKE A P-90
phase two began around 1983 when he told seymour he wanted to keep that pups tone essentially but have more output and warmth
the CC was born but it was not called that yet

THIS IS NOTE ENTIRELY TRUE... THE CUSTOM WAS ACTUALLY AN EXISTING PICKUP... THE ORIGINAL HUMBUCKERS WERE THE 59, THE CUSTOM, THE JAZZ, THE JB, THE MAG(PRE-STAG MAG) AND THE DISTORTION.
WHAT ED DID WAS PUT AN OLD PAF ALNICO MAGNET IN THE CUSTOM... IT IS TRUE THAT SEYMOUR WANTED TO ATTACH EDDIE'S NAME TO THIS VARIATION OF THE CUSTOM AND MARKET IT... NO DEAL WITH ED THOUGH...
the custom shop quot;78 bucker is the same wind that seymour did for ed on his old original '61 P.A.F
THE EVH/78 MODEL ACTUALLY HAS BALANCED COILS... I WISH THEY WERE MIS-MATCHED BECAUSE IT WOULD BETTER CAPTURE THAT EARLY TONE
To answer your other question...
ED REVEALED THE HYBRID PICKUP TO ME BACKSTAGE DURING THE FAIR WARNING TOUR... SAID HE WAS TORN BETWEEN HIS OLD PAF AND THE CUSTOM WITH THE ALNICO MAGNET... DECIDED TO TAKE A COIL FROM EACH AND MAKE ONE PICKUP...
HOW LONG HE ACTUALLY USED IT WE WILL NEVER KNOW, BUT I STILL FEEL IT CAPTURES THE ESSENCE OF HIS EARLY SOUND BETTER THAT ANYTHING ELSE I HAVE EVER TRIED...
SECONG PLACE GOES TO THE EVH/78 MODEL
THIRD PLACE GOES TO THE CUSTOM CUSTOM

Hmmm...guess the 78 is a mismatched wind then....
God I'm getting to the point where hate discussing EVH gear anymore...50 answers for one question
I'll stick to my eurometal guys...they aren't so friggin evasive about what gear they use

from : localhost/cgi.ebay.com/gibson-paf-picku...QQcmdZViewItemBelieve it or not, that's a pretty good price for a real one. Over on the LP Forum they're quoting prices $3000.00
