Does a 24 fret kneck need to be paired with a specially made body? Or can a standard strat type body that would normally use a 22 fret neck work?

I ask because, I just bought a yamaha type guitar body from ebay that is probably form a pac112 or similar guitar. I have a 24 fret neck (jackson style) that needs some work but would do fine if it fits this guitar body, or i could just break down and buy a 24 fret neck i saw at a local shop.

Depends on the neck construction. Some strat necks with 24 frets simply have a finger board extension. Other 24 fret necks, such as the one on my Ibanez, have no extension, so that effectively makes the heel of the neck closer the the bridge. Putting my Ibanez neck on my strat or vice versa would create scale length issues, being that the heel to nut on the Ibanez neck is longer than the heel to nut on teh strat neck.

plus it'll most likely mean you won't be able to put a neck pickup in.

the neck i have has no overhang at all. I measured it and the distance from nut to 24th fret is just about at 18 5/8ths inches. I measured the neck on my fender 22 fret guitar and the distance from nut to 22nd fret is right at 18 1/2 inches.

I eyed the 24 fret neck on my fender and if i mounted that neck on the fender the 24th fret would sit ever so slightly toward the headstock up farther than the 22nd fret on the fender.

meh just try it out =) couldnt kill anything ( i dont think )
