I bought this Epiphone Les Paul in 1994 for £250, this is my first electric guitar. While looking recently on the Epiphone website, trying to identify what model it is, I assumed it was a LP 100 because of the price.
I mean, if the neck was bolted, wouldn't there be any appearant bolt somewhere??? What do you think about this neck? And if anyone knows enough about Epiphone to tell me what model it could be or what it is actually made of, it would be nice?
Im not an Epi-freak but Ive never seen a bolt on neck that I couldnt see the bolt stickin' out of the back lol
That's a nice epi, definately a set neck and not a bolt on. I've never seen a top quite like that before though . . . looks like you found yourself a unique guitar. Does she play well?
Looks like pseudo-birdeye maple top with a maple or alder back. Deffiantely not mahogany.

I had one just like it and mine had the same woods. I agree with ya!!!
Thank you guys, I am always impressed when someone can tell the type of wood just like. I wish I could do that, would be useful for my work as well.
I knew that the body wasn't mahogany. The difference in weight with the Gibson was an obvious hint.

Well you make me doubt. I am not really keen on the look of this guitar, but as it's my first one, I thought I would keep it anyway. I was looking into having the finish reworked, as part of an overall makeover including changing most of the electrics. But now I am not sure, is it really rare? Anyway, I approached a luthier about this and it might come out that it is too expensive.
About playing it, It is pretty Ok if it wasn't for the pickups. The neck is really muddy and the bridge doesn't stand the comparison with the gibson pup. It is a little bland. And until the make over, don't even think about doing a buff whit this one.
It looks like a Epi LP classic. I know for a while Epi was putting out quot;classicsquot; with limited edition tops and open coil humbuckers. Does it have quot;Limited Editionquot; stamped on the back of the headstock? If so, I have 3 Epi LP's of the same model.
Drop some Duncans in it and it should be a great sounding guitar.
Thank you for the advice Lex. Apart from the serial number and quot;made in Koreaquot;, there is nothing stamped on the back of the headstock. But I had a look again on the Epiphone website and seeing the finishes, I think it actually is a classic. I also took a look again at the Les paul 100, and the bolt-on neck is quite obvious.
I am going to have the whole electronics replaced, with a pair of '59 and new CTS pots 500k, logarithmic for the volume and linear for the tone. After that, it should really rocks.
