Name some.
(for recording guitar)
And could someone give me some info on mics? More in depth than the different types ( i know the differences ).
thx in advance
sennheiser e609 is awesome especially for the price ($99). It blows away the sm57
Sennheiser 609
Shure SM57
Kel Audio HM-1
Audix I5 (I believe. Double check the model number)
i have and love the SM57, very versatile and sounds good on pretty much any instrument..

You didn't specify, but I'm going to guess you want something for micing up your amp, not recording acoustic. If this is the case then I'd say your only real option is a dynamic cardioid, SM57. You'll ruin a condenser by sticking it next to your amp, plus you'll struggle to get a decent sound IMO. Condensers tend to boost the high frequencies and this doesn't flatter distorted guitar sounds. There's a reason why everyone uses Shure Mics, they're so good. They've blown everything else I've ever used away. Plus they're so versatile you can use them for almost anything else. If you ask specific questions about mics then I might be able to answer them. I don't want to patronise you though by telling you a load of stuff you already know. HopeI've helped.

Thats really not true concerning condensors. Most (but not all) can handle the SPL of an amp. Its very common to use and AKG414 or a Neumann 103 alone or in combination with a SM57 or other dynamic. Condensors aren't common on stage but they are very commonly used in the studio.
For running your Amp thru a PA or recording an AMp the SM57 or 58 are real good choices. I like the 57 better for guitar and Bass, the 58 is good for drums. The others that were mentioned above are also good, but if you are looking to record an acoustic guitar get a real good Mike. I don't remember the model #, but I recorded a few tracks with a Senhieser that was amazing but it was very expensive ($650).
Whoa, that is expensive...$600? I'm thinking like between $50-150. It'll be for recording electric guitar from a 12 inch speaker. I'm not opening up a studio here lol, just so i can record some of my own songs.
sm57
If you want a decent condensor later on you can get a studio projects b1 for 89 bucks. It would sound great as a room mic I think.

1. I run a couple of MXL 90x mics in front of my cabs with great results. Since the two mics set me back $100, total, I'm not too uptight about overloading 'em.
I've also heard behringer makes a really good mic that's similiar to the SM57 without the high mid spike. Anyone try it?
