I just replaced an awful twangy single coil on my strat with an SHR-1b. It sounds AMAZING gained up on OD2 on my marshall AVT-150, but the clean sound is slightly crunchy, even when I turn my gain right right down. Anything i'm doing wrong? Or is this just to be expected (cuz some reviews claim a gorgeous clean tone)?

It's alongside two single coil pickups, just wired up the basic way (black to volume, green and bare to earth, white and red together).

(Sorry if this is the wrong forum)

The hotrails bridge is a very high output pickup. It’s never going to put out clean tones like a lower output pickup.

It's ok, just had first rehearsal today with the new pickup, the clean sound still kicks ass

Haaarr!!

A Hot Rails is meant to be in a guitar with some single coils so you can switch from high-output crunchy madness to low-output sparkly goodness.

i have a hotrails in my strat and ya the cleans are not the best but they are decent enough for my taste, besides i normally switch pickups for a clean tone to the neck. I personally love the hotrail for the bridge pickup at least.

look into installing a coil tap- there's info on it everywhere on this site, it disconnects a coil of the pickup, essentially leaving you with a hot singlecoil tone..

i think you need to remember that the strat is a very versatile guitar, since you can put three pick ups in there it leaves you with alot of options.

parallel switching would be another option. it will cut output and give a brighter tone. its also humcancelling still.

if you lower the pup a little you will get a slightly cleaner brighter tone

hi, i got a hot rail in the bridge of my strato, and yep is fu**ing hot!!!!! so don't worry it's normal, if you want a more clean sound you can always try a simple mod, put in a on-on-on switch so you can do series-split-parallel, it's a very good pickup, sounds well in all this 3 modes!!!!!
series-gt;normal sound
split-gt;singole coil
parallel-gt;a in between of series and split, glassy sound and a bit less gain

the strat is the wonderland of switching options!!! on mine i have the standard 5-way swith plus:
-series-split-parallel switch for bridge pickup
-series-parallel switch for middle pickup (i got an HB there )
- an on-off switch for neck pickup so i have bridge-neck and all three pups togheter to
i'm thinking tp put another switch for series-parallel between bidge and middle pups too
